All'interno conservata anche la fascetta editoriale e un foglio volante pubblicitario di Bompiani. Vecchia ed elegante firma d’appartenenza privata alla prima carta datata 1955. Un piccolissimo difetto al margine alto della sopraccoperta e nel complesso esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione rarissima da trovarsi completa della sopraccoperta, di quest’opera già apparsa in parte a puntate sulla rivista “La Rassegna d’Italia dal febbraio del 1947 al luglio del 1948, con il titolo “Lo zio Agrippa”. Lo stesso Vittorini scrive riguardo alle differenze notevoli fra le due stesure “Di una prima stesura di questo romanzo, molto più lunga e in sostanza diversa dalla presente, è stata pubblicata una serie di stralci sulla Rassegna d'Italia dal febbraio 1947 fino a luglio del 1948. Ma rare sono le pagine del libro com'è ora che coincidano esattamente con pagine del libro come era (intitolato Lo zio Agrippa passa in treno) nella prima stesura”. Importante opera del grande scrittore, traduttore e critico letterario siciliano, Elio Vittorini (Siracusa, 23 luglio 1908 – Milano, 12 febbraio 1966). Dopo una fanciullezza tribolata alla continua ricerca di libertà e dopo aver fatto umili lavori, nel 1926, grazie a Curzio Malaparte iniziò a collaborare con la rivista la "Conquista dello Stato". Nel 1927 inviò a La Fiera Letteraria il suo primo importante scritto narrativo, Ritratto di re Gianpiero, che gli venne pubblicato. Nello stesso periodo di tempo sposa Rosa Quasimodo, sorella di Salvatore Quasimodo. L’anno seguente collabora con “Solaria” e con “L’Italia letteraria”. Nel 1931 esce il suo primo romanzo “Scarico di coscienza”. Tra il 1933 ed il 1934 su Solaria compare a puntate uno dei suoi capolavori, “Il Garofano Rosso” che a causa della censura fascista non fu mai pubblicato in forma di romanzo, prima del 1948. Ottimo conoscitore della lingua inglese le sue traduzioni di Faulkner, Poe e Lawrence sono ancora oggi, molto apprezzate. Vicino alla corrente del fascismo di sinistra, nel 1936 venne espulso dal partito a causa di un articolo che parlando della guerra civile spagnola, spronava gli italiani a schierarsi contro Franco. Nel 1939 è a Milano dove Bompiani gli assegna la cura della collana editoriale “La Corona”. Controversa è la sua posizione politica fino al 1942 quando entra nel Partito Comunista Italiano (solo il 7 ottobre del 1942 partecipa al convegno degli intellettuali nazisti di Weimar, promosso dal ministro della propaganda Joseph Goebbels) e da questo momento i poi partecipa attivamente alla Resistenza. Uscì poi dal Partito Comunista nel dopoguerra per protesta contro la mancanza di libertà del regime comuista sovietico e per le posizioni non critiche di Togliatti. "Nel 1951 Giulio Einaudi lo chiamò per dirigere la collana "I Gettoni" e Vittorini condusse il suo incarico facendo scelte molto precise riguardo agli autori da inserire nella collana, accogliendo soprattutto le opere di giovani scrittori come Calvino e Fenoglio, ma rifiutando Il Gattopardo di Tomasi di Lampedusa. Vittorini successivamente rifiuterà la pubblicazione de Il dottor Živago di Pasternak e Il tamburo di latta di Grass". Vittorini fu uno scirttore molto impegnato politicamente per tutta la sua vita ma caratterizzato da un impegno che andando ben al di là dalle posizioni ideologiche dei singoli partiti, ricercava nei partiti stessi un mezzo per sviluppare le libertà dell’individuo. Fu per questo che senza grandi problemi abbandò via via tutti i partiti politici nei quali si trovò coinvolto una volta che questi tradivano le sue finalità ideali. A pagina sette alcuni strappetti al margine esterno bianco e una piccola perdita di carta sempre al margine esterno bianco, una tavola con leggera rifilatura la margine basso all'altezza della descrizione della tavola e per il resto volume in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Bella legatura coeva in tutta tele scura con titolo e filetti in oro e a secco al dorso e belle cornici a secco ai piatti. Prima, non comune edizione, di questo celebre e curioso scritto satirico illustrato da 26 divertenti tavole fuori testo. L'autore analizza il modo in cui l'imbroglio, nella forma dell'impostura, caratterizzi ampiamente la società italiana post-unitaria sia in ambito sessuale che politico e sociale. La critica colpisce così giornalisti, politici, uomo e donna, il liberale, il padre della patria, il ministro, il giudice, socialisti e comunisti, sacerdoti, il filantropo, il galantuomo, il mecenate ecc. ecc. Opera curiosa che riscosse all'epoca della sua prima uscita un notevole successo venendo a breve ristampata.

First edition of this first Turkish translation of Gorki's famous work 'Lenin', translated by Dr. Fuad (or Fuat] Sabit [Agacikli] (1876-1935), in the year 1936, when Gorki died. After the Erzurum Congress, held in 1919, Fuad Sabit was sent to Baku as a representative to help the Bolsheviks and to get their support for the National Struggle (1919-1922). Afterward, he joined the Turkish Communist Party. He completed successful diplomatic actions in Baku, Dagestan, and Moscow. On September 01, 1923, he was promoted to medical major.
