Present here are: The 1813 'second edition improved' of the first part of the work and the 1812 first edition of the second part of the work.Illustrated with four plates to part one and with two plates to part two. Lacking the frontispiece to each volume.With three pages of advertisements to the rear of Part I. In a quarter calf binding with cloth covered boards. Light handling marks to boards. It was reprinted many times between November 1861 and January 1862.</p> <p>This is identified as an early issue and probably the first by the two misprints in the second column on page 25: "Fred. Mueller" for "Ferd."; "explanaions" for "explanations".</p> <p>"The largest the most expensive and the worst-led expedition yet seen in Australia the Victorian Exploring Expedition became a symbol of inter-colonial rivalry. There can be little doubt that the prime objective of the expedition when it set out in August 1860 was to beat Stuart's South Australian expedition to the north coast at any cost. "The Argus was an Australian daily morning newspaper in Melbourne from 1846 to 1957. It was considered to be the general Australian newspaper of record for this period. Widely known as a conservative newspaper for most of its history it adopted a left-leaning approach from 1949. The Argus's main competitor was David Syme's more liberal-minded newspaper The Age. Original publisher's red roan-backed marbled boards ruled and lettered and gilt. Rubbed some surface loss to upper board. Offsetting to title. The second published work of minor children's author 'Arabella Argus' a charming narrative presented from the perspective of a donkey passed from owner to owner some wicked others caring that makes an impassioned plea for kindness towards animals. Notwithstanding the author's favourable contemporary reviews it is surprising that her books did not sell well; the present title first published in 1815 had to wait eight years for this second printing and was only reprinted for Darton five times up to 1860.
