Édition originale entièrement composée et illustrée par Charles Demengeot, graveur héraldiste et typographe français du XIXe siècle. L'ouvrage comprend 34 planches, accompagnées d'un texte historique, entièrement imprimé en rouge et noir, sur les chiffres-monogrammes et couronnes depuis l'Antiquité jusqu'à nos jours. L'ouvrage se décompose en deux parties : un aperçu historique et méthodique du chiffre-monogramme à toutes les époques (V ff.) ; une première partie intitulée « Les chiffres-monogrammes dans tous les styles » (98 pages) ; une seconde partie intitulée « Les couronnes nobiliaires universelles » (116 pages) ; suivies de 4 feuillets et de 34 planches, dont une planche de « Monogramme de tout l'alphabet ». L'ouvrage est de grande rareté et particulièrement recherché lorsqu'il est complet des deux parties de texte et de l'atlas de planches. Il est inconnu de plusieurs bibliographies consultées, y compris Vicaire.
