This hearing was in response to the Wounded Knee Takeover which began in February 1973 when around 200 Oglala Lakota Native Americans and followers of the American Indian Movement seized and occupied the town of Wounded Knee South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The document contains the testimonies in front of the US Senate of 3 former Russian citizens. The first one - Luba Markish was used as a lab rat in testing a highly toxic gas while she was a student at Moscow University. She was severely burned and disabled in what the university deemed an "accident." When she tried to write a book about her experience and testify at a Copenhagen hearing for violation of human rights her family was threatened with death by the Russian Government. The second testimony is that of Prof. David Azbel a Ukrainian-born naturalized American citizen who was arrested during the Stalin purges in the 1935 and spent 16 years in the camps of the Gulag Archipelago.
