Heavy blue sheets with 28 heavy gauge black thumb tabs divide it into different reports and such each titled in gilt: "REPORT 96-831" "PUBLIC LAW 96-100" "CAPABILITIES OF THE U.S. TO MONITOR THE SALT II TREATY" "INTELLIGENCE IDENTITIES PROTECTION LEGISLATION" "NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ACT OF 1980" etc. From the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III 1930-2021 U.S. Senator from Illinois 1969-81 who at this time chaired the Senate Ethics Committee which in 1979 officially censured Georgia senator Herman E. Talmadge for financial irregularities -- report of which may well be contained within this volume. "Senator Adlai E. Stevenson" giltstamped along bottom spine against green background. A handwritten note on the front free endpaper indicates the book was presented to F.D. Long 2/7/1905 by C.A. Culberson Charles Allen Culberson a Democrat from Texas who served as the 21st Governor of Texas from 1895 to 1899 and as a United States Senator from Texas from 1899 to 1923. S.3449 was a bill to authorize and direct the Water Resources Council to coordinate a national program to insure the safety of dams and toher water storage and control structures to provide technical support to state programs for the licensing and inspection of such structures to encourage adequate state safety laws and methods of implementation thereof and for other purposes. This hearing was held in the aftermath of several tragic floods including the Buffalo Creek Valley flood of February 26 1972 in West Virginia which claimed at least 118 lives and the flood in June 1972 in the vacinity of Rapid City South Dakota which killed over 200 people and involved the failure of the Canyon Lake Dam.
