Stevenson III 1930-2021 U.S. Senator from Illinois 1969-81 who at this time chaired the Senate Ethics Committee which in 1979 officially censured Georgia senator Herman E. Talmadge for financial irregularities -- report of which may well be contained within this volume. "Senator Adlai E. Stevenson" giltstamped along bottom spine against green background. Senate Report No. 183 of the 42nd Congress May 1872 was a landmark investigation by the Senate Committee on Investigation and Retrenchment examining U. S. Government arms sales to French agents during the 1870–1871 Franco-Prussian War. The investigation concluded that while arms were sold they were not illegal and the proceeds were accounted for clearing the government of wrongdoing. Following the American Civil War the U. S. Had a massive surplus of arms. During the Franco-Prussian War French agents purchased tens of thousands of rifles including Springfields and 400 cartridges per gun from the U. S. RARE copy of this early 19th century 76 page report on the northeastern boundary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts then the disputed property then being the joint property of Massachusetts and Maine. Includes a fold-out map: "Extract from A Map of the British & French Dominions in North America" by Jno. Mitchell from 1755. The map measures approximately 13 1/2 x 14" has edge tears fading/foxing and is fragile. From the Joint Committee on Public Lands. Cover has moderate wear and fading; minor foxing within; last couple of pages have dampstains on top outer corners. Commonwealth of Massachusetts hardcover

Culberson Charles Allen Culberson a Democrat from Texas who served as the 21st Governor of Texas from 1895 to 1899 and as a United States Senator from Texas from 1899 to 1923. It appears as if the book was stored improperly lending itself to have an upward bend of entire right edge of book and pages. Bumped corners top right of front board and top left of back board. Book has small stains on page edges. Book is free from any apparent marks on the interior and has a wonderful aroma when flipping the pages. Binding is tight. A remarkable piece of American history. This book dated 1918 contains the rules and orders of the Standing Senate of the time. with only 4500 copies in the original print run this book is a unique addition to any law library.
