New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In English. 323 p. Exiled days of Sultan Abdülhamid II in Salonika, 1909-1912. This book is composed of two chapters on two different topics. In the first part, I have studied the exile days of Sultan Abdülhamid II in Salonika (1909-1912). This chapter is a narrative of the 1278 days he had spent in exile between the night of 27 April 1909 when he was taken to Salonika by train and early morning of 1 November 1912 when he was brought to the Beylerbeyi Palace I have interrupted the chronological narrative of the events, and put subsections on the Villa Alâtini where he resided in Salonika; why he was exiled and why Salonika was chosen; his life and thoughts in exile; his guards and doctors in Salonika; and the excursion of Sultan Mehmed V Resad to Rumeli, and the "Salute of the Sultan.".In the second part, I have studied a phenomenon that occurred at the same time period that I focused in the first part: in several ways, Sultan Abdülhamid II's wealth was seized, or confiscated, as he had written in a letter titled "My Petition to the State, Nation, Parliament, and Soldiers." In this chapter, I have worked on the plunder in the Yildiz Palace; seizure of his real estate left to the use of Ministry of Finance as a guarantee for a loan in his name; the forced donation of his money and shares in national and foreign banks to be used for the Second and Third Ottoman Armies; seizure of his money found in the Yildiz Palace; the auction of the jewelry found in the Yildiz Palace for the benefit of the Donanma-i Osmânî Iâne-i Milliye Cemiyeti; and the story of the money and jewelry found in the Beylerbeyi Palace after his death.

New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 129 p. Insanity in the reign of Abdülhamid II, (1876-1909). Insanity has always been a popular topic. This study has tried to identify the status of insane in the mind of the state during the Abdülhamid II¿s reign (1876-1909). The main issue of this study is the contradiction between the position of the insane and insanity in the Abdülhamid¿s era and his charitable and protector Sultan image. In this regard, the Ottoman asylums, the practices in these asylums, daily life of insanes in the Ottoman society, the status of criminal insanes and their sensations, the Ottoman psychiatrists and their studies have been analyzed.

New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In English. 264 p. The Young Turks: Struggle for the Ottoman Empire, 1914-1918. The Unionists hoped to do so by avoiding any further wars and ending their isolation by forming an alliance with the Triple Entente composed of England, France and Russia. When they were turndown by the Entente powers, they turned to Germany. Berlin finally signed the alliance after the war had begun in Europe in August. Germany's reason was ideological: the Ottoman Sultan-Caliph could broaden the war by declaring jihad or "holy war" against the Entente powers, causing Muslims to rebel in British India and Egypt, French North Africa, and the Russian Caucasus. Though the Ottomans were allied with Germany, they believed that the alliance did not commit them to enter the war. But their treasury was empty and the economic situation precarious. Only Germany was willing to give loans, but only on the condition they enter the war. Istanbul was forced to submit and entered the war after the Black Sea incident when Ottoman ships -led by a German admiral- bombarded Russia's ports on 29 October and the Entente declared war on the Ottomans in November. Istanbul declared jihad on the 11th and that turned a European war into a world war, thus extending it by perhaps three years. This book is a study of the Young Turks and their struggle to save the Ottoman Empire during the Great War of 1914-1918. It is the sequel to The Young Turks the Committee of Union and Progress in Turkish Politics, 1908-1914.
