44942Kowloon Hong Kong: Christian Witness Press n. d. C. 1970s. Attached at the top-edge with maroon tape. A very good set still very bright with some minor occasional tears/creases and a faint spot of foxing here and there; overall a VG set. Five broadsides printed in color. 30-1/4" x 21"

These posters were said to bring the viewer closer to God. The images progress much like a graphic novel beginning with two figures at the edge of a cliff on the other side is paradise and at the bottom of the divide is a pit of flames. The male figure tries to build a wooden bridge but it fails and falls into the pit. After he glimpses a heavenly vision of the baby Jesus a red cross springs from the flames to bridge the divide into Paradise. Viewed in sequence they evoke a striking allegory for reaching paradise by accepting Christ into your heart. Christian Witness Press unknown books

A very good set still very bright with some minor occasional tears/creases and a faint spot of foxing here and there; overall a VG set. Seven broadsides printed in color. 30-1/4" x 21"

These posters were said to bring the viewer closer to God especially when viewed in sequence. Five of the posters depict a man's face with a different countanence affected by the large heart beneath him. "This wordless poster series builds entirely on symbols to communicate its message about human need struggle and salvation. The likely venue for use of the poster was in small church or evangelism meetings or on street corners. These and similar posters were used to explain the need for salvation Christian discipleship and sanctification" per Wheaton College bulletin 1610. The animals are likely representative of the seven deadly sins the book symbolizes the Bible the dove is the Holy Spirit the cross is Christ's sacrifice for mankind the six-pointed star representing God's Law. The placement of these symbolic images in or out of the heart in conjuction with the two posters that depict the death of a Christian vs. a non-Christian make for a highly affective and eye catching allegorical puzzle. A very good set still very bright with some minor occasional tears/creases and a faint spot of foxing here and there; overall a VG set. Four broadsides printed in color. 30-1/4" x 21"

These posters were said to bring the viewer closer to God. The images progress much like a graphic novel beginning with a figure running from a tiger along a cliff's edge his face contorted in horror he takes hold of a vine to lower himself from the cliff only to find an alligator with open jaws waiting at the bottom. When he tries to backtrack there is one black rat and one white rat crouched at the top of the vine. The final scene depicts the tiger and alligator turning away as the figure reaches for a glowing red cross on the cliffs edge just out of reach his face calm. Viewed in sequence they evoke a striking allegory the rats possibly signify a retreat from the literal jaws of sin through deceit the sinner turns from the rats at the last minute toward Christ his fate is unknown but his countenance suggests a peaceful resolve. 1944888911944. JAPANESE PROPAGANDA Asahi Shimbunsha. SAKURA. Volume 6 #2 #31 overall. Large wrappered staple bound illustrated photomagazine in the tradition of FRONT and HOMELIFE. This number published in February of 1944 celebrated the plans for a cross continental railway to cross Eurasia from Tôkyô to Berlin complete with an undersea tunnel from Japan to the mainland. SAKURA magazine was written in English Chinese and French. The whole world seems to lay at the feet of the Axis in this rosy scenario as sketched throughout the magazine. East Asia under the guidance of Imperial Japan is on the march to build a new world. Yet by February of 1944 the Red Army was in Poland and the Ukraine Sevastopol was cut off times were bleak for the 1000 year Reich indeed. Closer to home the Allies had "turned the corner" in the Western Pacific had isolated the large Japanese force at Rabaul and were headed north towards the homeland. At some point during the war reality and appearance began a rapid divergence and as the end approached it became all pure delusion. All of which does not obviate what an amazing visual feast SAKURA is from the covers to the ads a consistent message of normalcy progress and steadfast purpose in a great task. unknown books
181954848Washington D.C.: Army Air Forces. 10-18- 1943. Color poster / map 47 x 35 1/2 inches 120 x 90 cm folding as issued now professionally mounted on linen backing. Wear and a little paper loss along the fold lines has been infilled light toning to lower centrefold; the poster presents very well with bright color. Stunning image of a hemispherical view with Japan at the centre encompassing the area from Iran in the west Australia in the south and as far as the west coast of the U.S. at the east of the map. The map maker is F.E. Manning one of the distinguished news illustrators of the war in a style very similar to that of Richard Edes Harrison. There is a scale along the lower edge which was intended to be clipped and used to measure distances of places on the map from Tokyo. Text reads: "This map is a photographic view of the world with the center at Tokyo. Thus with the detachable scale distances can be measured along any line running thru Tokyo. It should be noted that an inch at the center represents less mileage than an inch closer to the edges. The detachable scale has been designed to compensate for this and should be used only with the center at Tokyo. The photographic process used in making this map makes all distances measured with the tape approximate only. Distances are shown in statute miles. Lines between key cities do not represent regular air routes in all cases. They show distances between points that do not fall on a line going thru the center of the projection." The Newsmap posters were displayed in offices and factories to keep the American public updated with news of the war and to encourage their participation in the winning of it. . 16296EAST GERMANY. Die Kaserne. Bonn: Verlag „Ganz offene Worte" 1957-1963. 26 issues of an East German propaganda magazine. 1957 Heft 3; 1958 Heft 1-5; 1960 Heft 7; 1961 Heft 4-10 12; 1962 Heft 1-7 9-11; 1963 Heft 2. 7 ½ x 5 ½ in. Three smaller format. Staplebound. All have color covers and illustrations throughout. "Die Kaserne" was an East German magazine targeted specifically for young men in the West German military; the main object of the magazine was a disinformation campaign aimed at creating distrust of the West.

Kaserne English translation Barracks was created with the goal of creating dissent within the West German military by targeting conscripts. Some articles explicitly question the validity of required military conscription service which the West instituted in 1956; while others expose Nazi histories of West German leaders such as ambassadors; and many issues have strong criticisms for BRD politicians one even calls Willy Brandt who later became Chancellor of West Germany an American boot-licker Stiefelputzer. Most of the content was not overtly controversial and sought to establish common ground with low-ranking drafted soldiers. The issues are filled with jokes about military life and references to shared German culture i.e. Goethe They also feature notable East Germans such as cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and include stories about the high quality of life for workers women and families. Appealing to their target audience of young men over a dozen of the issues feature models or pinup girls on the covers.

Rather than try to explicitly convert soldier to full East German ideology the objective of these magazines was to create loyal readers who would disrupt overall West German military strategy. In the ideal situation this would be the first step in converting these Bundeswehr soldiers to East German political ideology and possibly becoming a Communist spy.
Pristine information cards in several issues encourage readers to subscribe to the free publication and to share copies with their fellow West German soldiers. Light reading wear. All in very good condition. unknown books

This volume was perhaps his most significant and horrific attack on western culture managing a "reptile press" in Hunan creating unrest and distrust amongst the Chinese people see John's "A Voice from China" 1907 p. 220. Chou Han himself is probably represented in plates IX XIII XXVI and XXIX; the images are virulently anti-foreigner and specifically anti-Christian.
