Corners rubbed with exposure some spotting to cover cloth rubbing along edges with some areas of exposure. Some notations in pencil and ink to front flyleaf a few ink notations to main title maps clean and unmarked. Approx. 6 1/2" closed tear along lower binding edge of front flyleaf. Firm binding. One illustration of a girl looking at an autograph book printed in gilt and sepia titled "Autographs." Several embossed chromolithographed floral decorations are between the pages. On the first page the original owner's name is written "Ellen Hartman" although the inscriptions are consistently to "Ella." Inscriptions are dated at Catasauqua Allentown and Fullerton Pa. 1889-1891. The towns are all in Lehigh County Pa. In Very Good- Condition: edges are rubbed; ends of spine starting to fray; otherwise clean and tight. hardcover
1892006977Tidioute Pa: Banking House of Grandin Brothers 1892. Near Fine. 1 leaf 21 cm. Engraved. "J. L. Grandin. Wm. J. Grandin." Dated July 1 1892 and addressed to A. E. Patton cashier of the First National Bank of Curwensville Pa. Signed by E. M. Curtis cashier. Alexander Ennis Patton 1852-1904 became the president of the First National Bank of Patton when it was established in 1893 and was elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in 1900. The Grandin brothers John Livingston Grandin 1836-1912 William James Grandin 1838-1904 and Elijah Bishop Grandin 1840-1917 in 1859 followed the lead of Edwin Drake in Titusville Pa. who had dug the first successful commercial oil well in the United States earlier that year. With oil money they established the Grandin Brothers Bank in 1870. Victims of the Jay Cooke & Co. bankruptcy in 1873 they exercised their right to take Northern Pacific Railway bonds with land-purchasing rights in the Dakota Territory rather than 15 cents on the dollar. Although the bonds themselves were worthless the 26000 acres they acquired became the largest corporate wheat farm in the Dakota Territory in the late 19th century. Temple Grandin is the great-granddaughter of J. L. Grandin. In Near Fine Condition: lightly creased; clean and bright. Banking House of Grandin Brothers unknown

In observation of the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the United States in 1787 a banquet was held by eight learned societies in Philadelphia: the University of Pennsylvania the American Philosophical Society the College of Physicians the Law Academy of Philadelphia the Historical Society of Pennsylvania the franklin Institute the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Academy of Natural Sciences. The guest list included President Grover Cleveland former president Rutherford B. Hayes members of the Supreme Court various foreign dignitaries members of Congress state governors and many others. The plates include the menu printed in red and black. Includes the toasts and speeches. Very scarce. In Good- Condition: lacking original wrapper; text block is separating; title page is lightly soiled; minor loss at upper corners of title page which has closed 2-cm. tear from spine; loss at fore-edge and lower corner of final two leaves without loss of text; loss at lower corners of final pages without loss of text; occasional closed tears along spine; text and illustrations are otherwise clean and solid. Bound in full gray suede by Bailey Banks & Biddle Co. Philadelphia silk moir. Laid in is an engraved invitation to the event. The invitation and banquet book belonged to Frederick J. Wulling the first Dean and for many years the primary instructor of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy as attested to by his son the printer Emerson Wulling of the Sumac Press on a Sumac Press envelope in which it is contained. Taft was sworn in in March 1909 and this banquet is one of several that year in various parts of the country. unknown

No date circa 1880s the US Post Office required the name of Centre Rutland changed to Center Rutland in 1892 and the Ripley Sons sold the company to Vermont Marble in 1889. Brothers William Y. W. Ripley and Edward Ripley who were running the company at this time both had distinguished service careers in the Civil War - William winning the Congressional Medal of Honor at the Battle of Malvern Hill and Edward commanding some of the first troops to enter Richmond. 011931Dalls Texas: Burton Lumber Corporation Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Brown imitation leather Wilson-Jones Loose Leaf Minute Book with gilt ruling metal hinges and posts about 9 X 12 inches. Marbled endpapers. 250 pages of which 224 pages have been used. The contents include minutes and financial statements from the Annual Meeting of the Stockholders reports each of which is followed by several Board of Directors meetings for that year ranging from years 1944-1965 when the company was dissolved dissolution documentation included. Each report is signed by the Secretary and President and dated. The first document is dated January 26 1944 and acknowledges the passing of Willard Burton on November 24 1943 age 93 with a resolution to be included in the minutes of the meeting. This meeting also announces by resolution the closure of the Dallas yard and establishment of the Houston yard as the principal place for the conduct of business. Presidents through the years included W.B. Ferguson W.B. Milstead J. Clyde Jones W.M. Lingo J.H. Robertson and W.M. Lingo Jr. The company's registered office address was changed to a Lake Jackson Texas address in 1964 just prior to the company's closing. Most of the annual meetings however took place in Dallas or Fort Worth. The Burton-Lingo Lumber Company was started in 1888 with Edward H. Lingo named as president and the name Lingo appears on the Board of Directors throughout the reports in this book. Willard Burton succeeded Lingo as president of the Burton-Lingo Company of Fort Worth and later founded the Burton Lumber Company with yards in Dallas and Houston. He was also president of the Kemp Lumber Company. He was one of the largest lumber dealers in Texas and a director in the Lumberman's Association of Texas. 0. Burton Lumber Corporation Hardcover
