Faint edgewear only to yapped edges else internally near fine. Large "Lincoln Centennial Association" themed bookplate on front flyleaf not filled in. Program of the third annual banquet of this association printed by the Roycrofters. Reverend Thomas D. Logan introduces J. Otis Humphrey and other speakers -- including President William Howard Taft. A quite nice copy of a delicate booklet whose binding often deteriorates badly. Not the usual garnet or burgundy color seen this copy also features more than the usual four sepia-tone portraits. Nice copy of the elaborate prospectus for Ida M. Tarbell's "The Life of Abraham Lincoln: Drawn from original sources and containing many Speeches Letters and Telegrams hitherto unpublished" first published in 1900 and reissued by Lincoln History Society in four volumes in1902. Definitely uncommon. Laid in is an 8" X 4" pale blue printed order form for this set $10 for "English Ribbed Cloth" $14 for "Three-Quarter Leather" and also a 4 3/4" X 7 3/4" Typed Letter Signed from this company's registrar W.R. Caldwell bearing his rubberstamped signature 1 April 1903. Addressed to E.P. Farr. Very good. Blue-ink mimeographed sales pitch letter for this set. Apparently this publisher reprinted this prospectus each time they reprinted this set others bear the date 1903 1907 1908 and 1909 on the facsimile of the Tarbell title page but this 1902 is the earliest and represents the year the LHS first published their edition. Alexander who composed the lyrics for the first song featured "Onward! Alma Mater Song". 21pp. Pp. 11-14 contains one of the earliest published pieces by Vladimir Ussachevsky composer and later co-founder of the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center becoming one of the major innovators of 20th-century electronic music it was he who proposed the ADSR envelope for electronic sound. Emigrating from Russia in 1930 he began studying music at Pomona College a sister school of Scripps College. In 1951 he was to create the first-ever recording of electronic music. The piece here is called 'Inspiration Russian Tune' arranged by Ussachevsky. <br/> <br/> paperback
