A collection of medical papers by various authors significant for the inclusion of the short paper 'Amputation of the cervix uteri' by J. Marion Sims who later released a full-length volume entitled 'Clinical Notes on Uterine Surgery.' Garrison-Morton 6057. The paper includes illustrations of a duck-billed speculum and two figures illustrating a method for applying stitches to close the amputation wound. The editor of the work acknowledges the importance of the article and apologizes for its placement at the end of the volume stating "This paper was received at so late a day that it was impossible to give it its proper place in the volume the minutes being already in type.
