Cornell and Edward C. Gale; in spite of defects noted a good sound copy of a very scarce directory. Contains a brief historical sketch of St. Anthony and Minneapolis numerous full-page advertisements for various local businesses and an alphabetical listing of the city's residents with addresses. Spear p. 328 giving the collation as 3 11-162 3 probably including advertisements on the original paste-downs which are not present here and locating only 4 copies; Martin Minnesota Imprints 244. 18870082231887. Very Good . 1 printed commission form naming Joseph H. LeFevre a notary public dated 30 March 1887 and signed by Gov. James A. Beaver and Charles W. Stone Secretary of Pennsylvania. the form is filled in in an attractive hand with a large gilt seal of Pennsylvania. Attached is a small form indicating that it was recorded in Adams Co. on 1 April 1887 with a smaller gilt seal of the Adams Co. Recorder's Office and the signature of the county recorder I. S. Stonesifer. Israel S. Stonesifer 1839-1928 served in the 165th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. In addition to serving as county recorder he was assistant superintendent of Gettysburg National Military Park. James A. Beaver 1837-1914 served during the Civil War as lt. col. of the 45th Pa. volunteers and then as colonel of the 148th Pa. volunteers being wounded several times and eventually losing a leg. He served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1887 to 1891 and from 1895 to his death in 1914 sat on the state Superior Court. Charles W. Stone 1843-1912 was in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives 1870-1871; in the Pennsylvania State Senate 1877-1878; Lieut. Gov. 1879-1883; and was secretary of Pennsylvania 1887-1890 when he was elected to represent the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Very Good Condition: upper edge slightly rubbed and just starting to separate at folds; otherwise clean and solid. unknown

Published 1929 Mar. 1 "This book correct to date as shown below" with additional dates in ink of 1930 Apr. 1 and 1930 July 1. Several pages with ink corrections deletions and additions. Manuscript in pencil verso of initial page. Two names in manuscript ink L.E. Bower 1/4/40 and C. A. Pennington 8/24. These books were a central reference for operational planning maintenance and engineering. The detailed information helped management ensure efficiency safety and standardization across their fleet. The C.C.C. & St. Louis Railway commonly known as the "Big Four Railroad" was formed on June 30 1889 through the merger of several smaller lines.
