Stated fourth printing of this volume in the 'American Guide Series' noted on the jacket as the Wisconsin Centennial Edition 1848 1948; first published in 1941. Begun as a project of the WPA during the depression to provide employment for idled writers the American Guide series eventually covered all 48 states plus Alaska & Puerto Rico as well as 40 cities. They continue to be regarded as important sources of cultural history & local pride. Hardcover in jacket as pictured full blue cloth gilt titling. Book shows light wear gilt bright corners lightly rubbed; jacket torn with a few large chips small holes $3.50 price intact. Text clean; 30 651 pages b/w photos maps rather than a large folding map this edition has the state sectioned one section to a page plus other maps; wood engravings by Frank Utpatel. Later Printing.
