1921007841Narberth Pa: Narberth Choral Society 1921. Paperback. Good. 44 p.: illustrations; 22 cm. Tied with red thread; wrapper printed in red and black. The chorus was conducted by Clarence C. Nice. The soloists in this concert were soprano Lucy Marsh and violinist John Richardson. The chorus was accompanied by the Victor Orchestra. The Narberth Choral Society was created in the spring of 1921 opened the Steel Pier in New Jersey in June 1921 and as this program indicates performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City in Nov. of that year. There is no evidence that it continued to exist after that year. In 1923 Clarence C. Nice conducted the San Carlo Opera in 1928 he became director of the Rollins College conservatory by 1932 he was at the Orlando College of Music and in 1935 he became state director of the Florida Federal Music project. American soprano Lucy Isabelle Marsh 1878-1956 recorded frequently for the Victor Talking Machine Co. from 1909 to the late 1920s both under her own name and under the name Anna Howard. Violinist John Richardson 1906-2004 was a child prodigy born in Philadelphia who performed with many orchestras in the Mid-Atlantic region. After attending Curtis he joined the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 1935 he became concertmaster of Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. He later joined the Dallas Symphony and the Baltimore Symphony. Includes many advertisements for businesses in the Ardmore-Philadelphia area. Quite scarce. This scarce photo depicts the E.C. Nagel’s 1870-1951 farm near Mesa WA in the first decade of the 20th Century when he and his wife Blanche Alma 1872-1943 a local school teacher were amongst the thousands expanding across the Palouse following the development of the Northern Pacific and Great Northern Railways and Columbia River irrigation projects. Unfortunately the farm would fail in World War I and Eberhard went to work for his brother near Pasco while his wife divorced him and moved to Olympia where she became an instructor at the women’s college there. n.p., unknown

From page 12 on are additional notes and comments that have been made over the years and collected by the author for this revised edition. A clean very presentable copy. Light traces of foxing on covers. Illustrated with map of the canal in full-color. A brief history of the canal and the Railroad's involvement. The Lehigh Valley Railroad leased the canal in 1871 but the investment was not profitable for the company. This pamphlet written by the President of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Company proposed to turn over to the state the Railway's interest in the canal with the exception of a few miles of property and right-of-way. The railroad got most of what it wanted. On November 29 1922 the Morris Canal passed into the hands of the State of New Jersey except for the property within the town limits of Phillipsburg and Jersey City less the Little Basin. . One of 200 copies of which only 15 were bound. Wear to spine with slight loss. Please see photos. A presentable copy of a fragile book. The colophon references 200 copies printed in 1932 but according to the printer's note dated 1937 those laid unbound on a shelf for the previoius five years. Fifteen of those were then bound of which this is one. August Heckscher and his brother founded the Ashlar Press during their prep school days and had the privilege of a Rockwell Kent-designed pressmark showing an ashlar stone being hoisted into place. That's not utilized in this production. Upon entering Yale they abandoned the press and eventually donated the type and specimens and press to Yale. The Ashlar Press hardcover
