A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked half-leather blue boards, slight sunning to spine and light bumping to upper corners. Top page edges and lettering and embossing to spine all gilt. Marbled end papers. 415pp. Undated but prize plate dated 1930.

It was originally the riding-house of Carlton House, where the original documents are kept of the surrender of the several monasteries and religions bouses in England to King Henry VIII. The Records here, in point of bulk, but not numerically, were about two-thirds of the Public Records of the kingdom. Slight age stain. Folio. 303mm. Original blue printed wraps. Chipped at edges with major loss on spine. Fascinating report especially the explanations of patents pending and the inventory of the Records in the Tower. ENGLAND BX 5

With the fine nineteenth-century engraved armorial bookplate of Sir Alfred Sherlock Gooch (Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk) on front paste-down, and 2pp publisher's advertisement at end. EXTREMELY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.

The Wimbledon and Sutton Railway Company Ltd., incorporated in law by the present Act, continued in operation from 1910 to 1925. When, in 1923, the Southern Railway Company was formed by merging the five major southern lines (and several smaller operators), the Wimbledon & Sutton fought to stay apart. It was one of the last to remain independent before its inevitable absorption in 1925. VERY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. Not in Ottley.
