Dust jacket not price clipped or marked or torn with slight creasing to upper edge and minor traces of storage. 236pp. Autobiography of a woman originally from Newcastle and of her struggle to survive halfway across the world with her four children and her husband who has descended into alcoholism. It covers the Second World War, her work with the Salvation Army and her sadness at their treatment of her as a widow in South Africa. At the end of her career and back in the UK she worked in the House of Commons as the officer who paid the MPs their office costs.

Il direttore del Contemporaneo, F.P.Carrillo, aveva inviato al De Luise, per un parere, la Lettera di M. d'A. agli elettori, del D'Azeglio descrivendolo come un opuscolo "che non soddifa né gli onesti, né a' tristi... non altro che un insulto continuo all'Italia e uno stimmatizzare continuo il Parlamento..." Dopo a lettura, il De Luise rispondeva: "... l'Italia... è oppressa dagli schiamazzi del partito democratico e soverchiata dal partito consortista. Il vero popolo, non già la setta, né il partito, è deluso da' raggiri... Un gran numero di elettori, anzi la maggioranza... si astiene dal voto... Che ha da fare la Camera? Se la maggioranza è col ministero, avremo il potere esecutivo sorretto da moltiplicati puntelli. Se la maggioranza non è col ministero, sarà sciolta!"(pp.1-4). E prosegue con l'analisi della politica italiana.
