Volume in 8º, brossura muta (piatto anteriore staccato), titolo manoscritto al tassello al dorso, bianca, occhiello, frontespizio, XXXI, 456 pp.. Ottima biografia del Cromwell e delle sue Teste Tonde, puritani "integralisti" come si direbbe oggi, ed in contempo ottimo trattato sul periodo più buio della monarchia inglese, con la morte del primo Carlo Stuart, decapitato per ordine del Parlamento. Tragica invero l'epoca, e tragici gli eventi. Nella sua cupa grandezza, la figura del Lord Protettore d'Inghilterra giganteggia ed è protagonista. In ottima lingua, ben scritto e stampato, il volume è presentato in buone condizioni, poche macchiette ed arrossamenti dovuti al tipo di carta, qualche menda d'uso. In barbe, non comune, interessante.

Fu il più significativo e potente capo di stato della Gran Bretagna: fondò l'esercito, la marina e l'impero, incoraggiò la ricerca scientifica, impose la tolleranza religiosa, richiamò gli ebrei, abolì la Camera dei Lord, i vescovi anglicani e i tribunali feudali, dando al suo Paese gli strumenti per diventare un moderno stato parlamentare e una potenza mondiale.
