2201TLS. 1pg. 7 ¼†x 10â€. June 1 1968. New York NY. A typed letter signed “Dick†to E. Perkins McGuire affectionately referred to as “Perk:†“This is just a note to congratulate you on your election as a delegate to our National Convention in Miami Beach. Your work on behalf of the Republican Party in Washington makes it most fitting that you should have the responsibility to help select the man who will be the next President of the United States. As one who has served as a delegate I know that in the weeks before the convention you will probably be inundated by the mass material you will receive from the prospective candidates and their supporters. I do not want to add to your burden in that regard but I would like to take the liberty of sending you under separate cover some of the statements I have made on the major issues during the campaign. I hope to see you at Miami Beach if not before. You may be sure that whatever decision our party makes at the convention I shall look forward to working with you for victory in November.†Perkins served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Eisenhower and was appointed by Nixon to be Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. As inferred by the letter the 1968 Republican National Convention was held August 5-August 8 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Florida at which time Nixon was selected to be the Republican nominee. He would go on to become President of the United States. Typed on Nixon’s personal letterhead the letter is in fine condition with some staining at the top. unknown books

4203RICHARD NIXON 1913-1994. Nixon was Thirty-Seventh President. TLS. 1pg. 8†x 10â€. November 24 1954. Washington D.C. A typed letter signed “Dick†as Vice President. Using official “Office of the Vice President†letterhead he wrote to campaign volunteer Evlyn Dorn thanking her for her assistance on Dwight Eisenhower’s Presidential campaign. In addition to expressing his gratitude he also mentions a blizzard that impacted the campaign tour and invites her to a future reunion: “Dear Evlyn: It was certainly a pleasure to have you with us for the last part of the campaign tour. As a matter of fact Rose has told me several times she doesn’t know what we would have done without you! I know it was hard work and you may be sure we are deeply grateful to you. In every campaign there seems to be one incident which stands out above all others as the most unexpected and dramatic. In the two-month campaign tour which we have just completed that incident was the snow storm in Montana which caused us to cancel one day’s campaigning in Wyoming. As you know those of us we were in Montana will never forget that day and likewise I think all of those who were with us for any part of the campaign would enjoy being members of our new association – ‘Veterans of the Battle of Butte Blizzard.’ Last Thursday night all the folks who were on any part of the campaign trip who happened to be in Washington got together with Pat and me at the Columbia Country Club for the first meeting of the Association. We really relived the ‘Battle.’ It was great fun and I hope the whole gang will be able to get together the next time whenever that may be. We hope to have a meeting on the West Coast next year. Your membership card is enclosed and we will be sending the emblem along to you within a few days. Pat joins me in sending out very best wishes to you and Larry. Sincerely Dick Richard Nixonâ€. 19811882Washington DC: The White House 1981. Framed. Fine. White House Photograph signed by President Ronald Reagan Jimmy Carter Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon. With the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat there was concern that sending a sitting United States President would be too dangerous. Protocol demanded that a high level delegation from the United States was needed for the trip but sending less senior officials would be viewed as a lack of engagement by the United States. Secretary of State Alexander Haig suggested that the 3 former living Presidents attend which all three accepted. With Richard Nixon in political exile since Watergate President Carter having just lost an election and President Ford getting pressure from his family to avoid dangerous situations all three had their reasons not to attend. This trip also marked a thawing in relations between the living former presidents with President Carter and President Ford striking up a lifelong friendship afterwards. This photograph marked the first time that 4 sitting Presidents had joined together at the White House. Photograph signed by President Ronald Reagan along with former presidents Jimmy Carter Gerald R. Ford and Richard Nixon. Framed in contemporary black frame gold edge museum archival glass. A fine signed copy. Provenance: From the office of Katherine Shepherd White House Correspondence office staff. Known as "Charley" Ms. Shepherd had a long career in Washington DC from Capitol Hill to the White House. In the 1980s she worked in the White House Correspondence office and was tasked outreach for President Reagan to constituents in his native Illinois and California. The White House unknown books

191018705Chicago: A.C. McClurg & Co. Very Good. 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. NOISBN . decorated red cloth with gilt lettering; no dust jacket nice solid copy minor wear at extremities slight fraying to bottom corners spine cloth a bit faded; attractive vintage bookplate see notes and small bookseller's label F. Loeser & Co. Brooklyn Book Store on front pastedown. B&W photographs drawings In her preface the author states that her book "was written with the desire of portraying Spain of to-day as she really is" as distinct from the many books she claims have been written about the country with "little sympathetic understanding of that Latin temperament which is responsible for the development of Spanish institutions." Furthermore it has been "written from the standpoint of the Spaniard himself and the opinions expressed at to institutions and customs peculiar to the country are in all instances bona fide expressions of the purely Spanish point of view." Bullfighting in case you're wondering is dealt with as part of Chapter VI "Amusements." The bookplate is that of B. Benjamin Olney Hough and depicts a man presumably him holding a book while standing in front of a window that looks out upon a bustling harbor of sailing vessels -- a reflection of the fact that he was an import-export man editor of "The American Exporter" and the author of several books related to international trade including "Practical Exporting; a handbook for manufacturers and merchants" published in 1915. So why buy a crappy printed-on-demand reprint with blurry illustrations when you can have the real deal And yes that is why it costs a little more; thanks for asking. . A.C. 197095202Washington D.C 1970. Rare Richard Nixon Presidential Commission appointing Baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio as a "Member of the Conference on Physical Fitness and Sports." Dated September 25th 1970 the appointment is signed by President Richard Nixon and Secretary of State William Rogers with the Presidential seal. Double matted and framed. In fine condition. From the personal collection of Joe DiMaggio. Included is letter of provenance from DiMaggio's estate signed by his two granddaughters. An exceptional association linking two American icons. Double matted and framed. President Richard Nixon was an avid baseball fan he attended 11 games while serving in office and in 1985 he arbitrated the dispute between the Major League Baseball owners and umpires over expanded league playoff bonuses. Nixon made headlines when on June 22 1972 a reporter covering the upcoming national election asked the President to name his all-time favorite ballplayers. Nixon's long list of great players inspired the reporter to make a unique request: the first ever presidential All-Star team. With the assistance of his son-in-law David Eisenhower Nixon put together the team and it appeared in national newspapers on June 30 1972. American baseball legend Joe DiMaggio is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time and is best known for his 56-game hitting streak May 15 - July 16 1941 a record that still stands. DiMaggio was one of the first sportsmen recognized in the Presidential Sports Award Program created by Richard Nixon in 1972. unknown books
