Signed and nicely inscribed by Eisenhower on the front free endpaper in the year of publication. A very nice copy as the recipient was a long time bookseller at Marshall Field & Company in Chicago. In publisher's first edition dust jacket $8.95 on front flap near fine condition. Inscribed to Bonnie Swearingen from Julie Nixon Eisenhower. Includes a letter from President Nixon praising the book addressed and signed by him in 1977. From the estate of John E. Swearingen the president of Standard Oil of Indiana and one of the most influential oil executives of the 20th century. When he became CEO in 1960 he deemed Indiana Standard Oil to be a "second-rate company." Through aggressive research and oil exploration Indiana Standard quickly became one of the most profitable companies in the United States. Swearingen was vocal about his dislike for federal regulators often supporting Republicans who shared his views on limited government. In retirement he was a close friend of presidents Gerald R. Ford and Richard Nixon. Swearingen died in 2007 survived by his wife Bonnie Swearingen who passed away in 2020. Simon and Schuster hardcover

Author inscription on front free end page "For Gene Crimson with best wishes always from Julie Nixon Eisenhower" and dated "1998". Dust jacket protected in archival cover. Dust jacket in very good condition with light to moderate frosting at extremities and creasing at folds. A still bright and sound cover. A nice edition. Includes two postcards depicting a photo of the Nixon family during an anniversary party one inscribed by Julie Nixon Eisenhower to Gene Crimson and one left blank. Simon & Schuster unknown
