From foreword- at 10:56:20 p.m. EDT July 20 1969 man first stepped on the moon. It took place 238000 miles out in space yet it was shared by hundreds of millions of people on earth. The step on the moon was an awesome achievement; so was its reporting on television because it emphasized television's extraordinary ability to unify a disparate world through communicating with so many people in so many places and thus providing them with a common--and an extraordinarily satisfying--experience. Richard William Jencks 1921 – June 30 2014 was an American television executive lawyer former president of the CBS Broadcast Group and former member of CBS' board of directors. He retired from his position as Corporate Vice President of CBS in 1976. Jencks was also a former president of the Alliance of Television and Film Producers or ATFP which is now called the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Jencks was appointed a distinguished visiting professor of communications at San Diego State University and was a founding member of the board of directors for the University of California at Berkeley Foundation. Jencks began appearing on a weekly radio opinion show called "2 Minutes with Richard" on KSCO when he was 85 years old and was frequently in demand as a speaker on broadcasting and other communication subjects. A Moon landing or lunar landing is the arrival of a spacecraft on the surface of the Moon including both crewed and robotic missions. The first human-made object to touch the Moon was Luna 2 in 1959. In 1969 Apollo 11 was the first crewed mission to land on the Moon. There were six crewed landings between 1969 and 1972 and numerous uncrewed landings. All crewed missions to the Moon were conducted by the Apollo program with the last departing the lunar surface in December 1972. After Luna 24 in 1976 there were no soft landings on the Moon until Chang'e 3 in 2013. Folded at middle marginal wrinkling and small tears; fine contrast very good to excellent. A press photograph looking into the gas chamber at San Quentin Prison taken following the execution of Albert Kessel 1909–1938 and Robert Lee Cannon 1908–1938. The pair were the first to be executed at San Quentin using that method; they were two of five men executed for their role in an attempted escape from Folsom Prison that caused the death of warden Clarence Larkin and a guard. The photo’s caption reads in part:<br /> <br /> “Into these two black chairs Albert Kessel and Robert Lee Cannon were strapped today in the state’s first execution with use of lethal gas. A few seconds later the door was shut and made airtight; witnesses lined around the window and then the deadly cyanide eggs released.â€<br /> <br /> In 1994 the use of cyanide gas was ruled cruel and unusual and banned in California to be replaced by lethal injection; in 2006 a court order halted capital punishment in the state altogether though it is still legal. unknown

Oblong folio olive buckram titled "News Events 1939" on spine really large photos much larger than your regular news service 8x10s measuring 13.5 x 11 inches on resin coated paper binding shows some wear about nine photos have some light damage to lower far left margin probably reparable but the vast majority are in very good or better condition with usual age toning striking photos of the war as well as domestic photos of events back home. RARE: OCLC records the Cincinnati Public Library as having "boxes" of photos from this company 1939-1945 425 photos and that's it.
