This finely printed woodblock sugoroku game sheet was distributed as an advertisement by Ozaki Seijirō a rice and fertiliser merchant based in Toyama City a small rural centre on the Japan Sea coast. The game depicts major Japanese military commanders and the siege of Port Arthur highlighting both the difficulties of overcoming the Russians and the eventual retreat of their soldiers. Among the generals shown are Kodama Ōyama and Kuroki. The sheet demonstrates how news of the war circulated widely reaching even provincial towns such as Toyama. . 尾﨑清次郎. [Ozaki Seijirō]. unknown

Repairs to folds including some colouring along paper abrasion on folds on image itself. Still a lovely poster. This beautiful colour advertisement poster promotes the moth-proof serge kimono fabric from Budōseru Grape Brand Serge. Serge kimonos became highly fashionable in Japan around the turn of the 20th century. The merino wool was imported from Australia being regarded as the most suitable fibre for single-layer kimonos. However woollen fabrics were susceptible to insect damage. To combat this issue the Grape Brand Serge manufacturer developed a moth-proofing treatment utilising chemicals from the German company Bayer. According to the poster Bayer's compounds were used and their treated serge was marked on the selvedge as "moth-proof Budo serge". This processing took place at their factory in Aichi Prefecture.

In the foreground a classical Japanese beauty graces a hillside elegantly attired in a purple kimono with a parasol in her hand. 18902876San Francisco: Louis Roesch Co 1890. Very Good. Single leaf red-brown color some tears and small chips along the edges. Advertisement for a school children's "Play Day" at the Sutro Baths in San Francisco which included bell ringing acrobatic feats dancing and a special performance from the London Patomime and Comedy Company. The Sutro Baths 1896-1966 was a public saltwater swimming pool in San Francisco built and owned by entrepreneur and former mayor of San Francisco Adolph Sutro and heralded at its opening as the world's largest indoor swimming pool. Sutro's idea was to provide an inexpensive recreational swimming facility mainly for the working class of San Francisco. In true progressive spirit Sutro also included natural history exhibits at the entrance to the baths as an educational opportunity. However due to their high maintenance and operating cost the baths were eventually converted to an ice skating rink and then sold in 1964 to property developers. A fire in 1966 destroyed what remained of the baths. Throughout its lifetime the Sutro Baths were the setting for a handful of films including two short films in 1897 by Thomas A. Edison and the 1958 American film noir "The Lineup." This leaf was likely an early promotional piece for the Sutro Baths. Louis Roesch Co unknown
