Bohn's Standard Library edition, translated by Mrs. Jonathan Foster. This is a very good hardcover set of 5 only of 6 volumes (vols. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) with light wear. Long ago released from a library and each volume bearing minimal marks. Hinges strengthened. Externally each volume is clean, titles in gilt on the spine, no call numbers or other marks. There are remnants of very old paper labels on several of the spines, these appear to have had numbers, now illegible. Each volume has a faint oval handstamp to the inside front cover, now unreadable. Each volume also has a slip and simple pocket at the inside of the back cover. All volumes bound uniformly in the publisher's wine cloth. All volumes generally clean internally, previous owner name in light pencil on one volume, light oval handstamps, a few per volume. Volumes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 only. Missing volume 1. Volumes 2 through 5 published in 1891. Volume 6 in 1885. 7" high X 5" wide. 508, 526, 548, 580 and 305 pages. Ex-Library

With the acquisition in recent years of multiple Egyptological libraries (those of Prof. Herman te Velde; Prof. Mathieu Heerma van Voss, Prof. Baudouin van de Walle; Prof. Michel Malaise; Prof. Herman De Meulenaere; Egyptologist Jacobus Visser, and former Trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society, Stewart Dale White), we now hold several thousands of rare offprint monographs which were collected over many years by these scholars. Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature, most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after. We took upon ourselves to collate, catalogue, and identify each item in accordance with Beinlich-Seeber or Annual Egyptological Bibliography, in the hope that this collection will prove useful for scholars and collectors alike. Presentation copy, signed and dedicated by the author to Egyptologist Prof. Baudouin van de Walle (1901-1988) from whose library this item comes. A unique scholar's copy, it has Varille's shoulder note added in pen. Van de Walle's extensive annotations in pencil appear at bottom of first page as well as occasionally within the text. Loosely inserted there are 8 leaves of manuscript in his characteristic neat hand, apparently citing the hymns in full, stanza by stanza, as well as numerous notes and other texts, partly in hieroglyphs.
