New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English and Turkish. 233 p., numerous b/w plates. Angels, prophets and saints in Islamic and Christian art.= Islam ve Hiristiyan sanatinda melekler, peygamberler ve azizler. Art History has been through a methodological transformation process by which it is becoming even more interdisciplinary, there is a significant need to be critical and the art historians have to find new perspectives on or new ways to conduct their researches, by looking beyond their areas of expertise to different approaches and other disciplines. This concern could and even should be reflected on a more general responsibility of art historians and historians in general. At this point, let me refer to the White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue of the Council of Europe, launched at the 118th ministerial session (Strasbourg, 7 May 2008): ?History teaching is instrumental in overcoming the wounds of the past and in promoting the fundamental values to which the Council of Europe is particularly committed; it is a decisive factor in reconciliation, recognition, understanding and mutual trust between peoples?. Historians in general, but also history of art scholars, must shoulder their responsibility on the elimination of prejudices and stereotypes among different countries, cultures and religions. One way to do is to highlight the positive mutual influences during the long history of Europe, while becoming critical at the very least to their own studies against possible ignorance and any misuse of history for ideological aims. In view of these, the colloquium and this book aim to represent a pioneer study in the field of art history in Turkey.

In the Byzantine Empire, Constantinople served not only as an administrative, military, and religious center, but also as one of trade and commerce. The city was selected as the new imperial capital due to its geographical advantages, its vasthinterland, its situation as an ideal vantage point for travel by land and sea, and its safe natural harbors, making it a perfect location fo trade. Considering that medieval Anatolia, and especially Constantinople, was located at the center of a broad trade network and was a center of both production and consumption, trade is rightfully a continuing subject matter of Byzantine studies. In addition, since 2004, the Directorate of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums has carried out archaeological research in Üsküdar, Sirkeci, and Yenikapi, as part of the Marmaray and Metro projects. The excavations have revealed spectacular artifacts and new knowledge on Byzantine trade, ship-building technology, and ships and their cargo. Inlight of harbor excavation results and information accumulated from other ongoing research, it wastheright time to re-evaluatetrade in Byzantium. New findings and knowledge arising from the Yenikapi excavations, in particular, gave reason to revisit issues of trade in Byzantium again. The articles collected in this volume derive from papers presented at the Third International Sevgi Gönül Byzantine Studies Symposium on 'Trade in Byzantium' held in Istanbul on 24¿27 June 2013.
New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 24 cm). In French and Turkish. 101 p., 556 color coin figures. La Collection de Monnaie de Pierre Willemart.= Pierre Willemart Sikke Koleksiyonu. A comprehensive inventory of educator, historian, and numismatics specialist Pierre Willemart's unique collection, donated to Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation and comprising numerous coins of states on the Eurasian belt ranging from Macedonia to China and extending from 5th century B.C. to date. Apart from identification and description of coins, it also offers a pleasant journey from ancient times to the present. Based on the nonexistence of an archaeological inventory of Anatolia and Turkish Thrace, TAY Project was launched in 1992 by scholars from Istanbul University, Durham University, and the French Institute of Anatolian Studies at Istanbul. Aiming at documenting the known and unknown cultural heritage of Turkey, thence protecting it, the team went all around the country region by region. As a result binders have been prepared and their format has been designed to facilitate updating. Sites are given in alphabetical order and the volume is finished with a bibliography and a map of Turkey showing all the sites. By the end of 2002, 4 volumes (A4 size) covering from Paleolithic through Early Bronze Age have been completed and presented to the world of science.

New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In English. 396 p., ills. Komana small finds (Settlement Archaeology Series 7). The aim of this book has been to collect papers on small finds recovered during the excavations at Komana between 2009 and 2018. It also marks the 10th year of excavations. Komana is a sanctuary site during the Hellenistic period, a place of worship for the kings as well as people from all over the country. It existed through the Roman and then the Byzantine period, was mentioned in the early Turkish written sources and reached the Turkish Republican period as a small rural village. The site is and was in a rural setting, surrounded by agricultural land along Yesilirmak and its economy depended on agriculture throughout its history. The rural character was not a limitation for the site, on the contrary an attraction due to the wealth it generated. There are clear imports from the Aegean among the scarce finds from the Hellenistic period just like the wealthy finds from the Byzantine and Danishmend / Seljuk periods indicating contacts with Corinth, Byzantium, Cilicia, Iran, Egypt.
