Seit seiner Auffindung und vor allem seit seiner Zuganglichkeit durch Errichtung des modernen - utzbaus haben sich die römischen Wohnhauser im Zentrum der antiken Stadt Ephesos zu einer wahren Attraktion entwickelt. In meiner Eigenschaft als langjahriges Mitglied der österreichischen Ephesos-Grabung und seit 2009 als Direktorin des Österreichischen Archâologischen Instituts und auch Grabungsleiterin war und ist es mir jedes Mal eine Freude, interessierte Besucherinnen und Besucher mit diesem einzigartigen Denk-mal römischer Wohnkultur vertraut machen zu können. Aus meinen vielen Führungen und Vortrâgen ist dieser Begleiter durch das Hanghaus 2 entstanden, der den sichtbaren archâologischen Befund vorstellt und erklart, aber auch die entsprechenden Hintergrund-informationen geben möchte. Da in einem handlichen Führer natürlich nicht jedes Detail Eingang finden kann, habe ich mich an den Fragen orientiert, die Sie mir wâhrend der Besuche im Hanghaus gestellt haben. Ich darf Ihnen empfehlen, bei Ihrem Beuch in der Ruine den »Rundgang durch das Hanghaus 2« aufzusehlagen. Aile anderen Kapitel sind so reich illustriert, dass sie auch an anderen Örten oder zu einem spâteren Zeit-punkt eine hoffentlich interessante Lektüre darstellen werden. Um so wenige Fragen wie möglich offenzulassen, findet sich am Ende des Bandes ein Glossar mit den wichtigsten Fachbegriffen.
