The present work introduces the sources on Byzantine coinage, coin types, inscriptions and monograms, dating, metals and denominations, the mints and short biographies of the Byzantine emperors before proceeding on to the catalogue which also includes examples from the Latin Kingdom, Empires of Nicaea and Trebizond.
