This solitary place was a pilgrim sanctuary and the sacred centre for the ancient Karians; a paved road for sacred processions led there from Milas. The shrine at Labraunda was the most important one in this part of Karia. This guide to the Swedish excavations contains both a description of the buildings that were erected in honour of the god Zeus Labraundos and an account of how the site was rediscovered in the 19th century. Labraunda is worth a visit not only because of the well-preserved remains of the unique banqueting hall Andron A and the other ruins, but also for the beautiful location and the splendid panorama view it offers. It is also unusual to find an ancient sanctuary, which, after its heyday, remained almost unchanged. It is therefore still possible to imagine what the sanctuary looked like in the 4th century BC, at the time when Karia was ruled by Maussollos and Idrieus.

New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 24 cm). In French and Turkish. 101 p., 556 color coin figures. La Collection de Monnaie de Pierre Willemart.= Pierre Willemart Sikke Koleksiyonu. A comprehensive inventory of educator, historian, and numismatics specialist Pierre Willemart's unique collection, donated to Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation and comprising numerous coins of states on the Eurasian belt ranging from Macedonia to China and extending from 5th century B.C. to date. Apart from identification and description of coins, it also offers a pleasant journey from ancient times to the present. New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In English. 396 p., ills. Komana small finds (Settlement Archaeology Series 7). The aim of this book has been to collect papers on small finds recovered during the excavations at Komana between 2009 and 2018. It also marks the 10th year of excavations. Komana is a sanctuary site during the Hellenistic period, a place of worship for the kings as well as people from all over the country. It existed through the Roman and then the Byzantine period, was mentioned in the early Turkish written sources and reached the Turkish Republican period as a small rural village. The site is and was in a rural setting, surrounded by agricultural land along Yesilirmak and its economy depended on agriculture throughout its history. The rural character was not a limitation for the site, on the contrary an attraction due to the wealth it generated. There are clear imports from the Aegean among the scarce finds from the Hellenistic period just like the wealthy finds from the Byzantine and Danishmend / Seljuk periods indicating contacts with Corinth, Byzantium, Cilicia, Iran, Egypt. Contents: D. Burcu ERCIYAS / Archaeology at Komana.; Tasha VORDERSTRASSE / Experiencing the Medieval Churches of Komana.; Meryem ACARA ESER / Objects from Daily Life at Komana: Jewelry.; Yunus Emre KARASU - Nursen ÖZKUL FINDIK / Figured Ceramics Found at Komana (Tokat) Excavations.; Tasha VORDERSTRASSE / Lamps from the Roman - Middle Islamic Periods .; Gülseren KOYUN ESEN / Small Finds at Komana Made of Bone, Clay and Stone.; Evangelia PISKIN - Hilal KÜNTÜZ / Bone Working Waste: The Infamous Bone Worker and Other Craftsmen Peeking Through the Animal Bone Assemblage from Medieval Komana.; Ceren ÜNAL / Byzantine Coin Finds from the Komana Excavation: A Preliminary Study.; Polina IVANOVA / The Coins: Danishmend / Seljuk Phase.; Ömür BAKIRER / Komana Glass Bracelets, Preliminary Report.; Nurdan YÜCEL - Emine N. A study on Knidos or Cnidus is an ancient settlement located in south-western Asia Minor, modern-day Turkey. It was an ancient Greek city of Caria, part of the Dorian Hexapolis. It was situated on the Datça peninsula, which forms the southern side of the Sinus Ceramicus, now known as Gulf of Gökova. By the 4th century BC, Knidos was located at the site of modern Tekir, opposite Triopion Island. But earlier, it was probably at the site of modern Datça (at the half-way point of the peninsula).

New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (21 x 12 cm). In English. 72 p., ills. Knidos. A guide to the ancient site. Knidos is a hidden treasure, situated on the far southwest coast of Turkey ¿ an ancient city in a setting of great natural beauty, remote, and yet redolent with history. Its rocky landscape dotted with patches of unspoilt wild vegetation combines with a pleasantly mild climate to give added attraction to the charm of this archaeological site, where winds provide a cool breeze even in hottest summer months. Because of its location at the end of a long peninsula, Knidos is hard to reach by road, and most visitors prefer to arrive by sea. However, those who choose to use the difficult overland route are rewarded with a journey through an attractive but changing landscape of pine forests, red and black rocky outcrops formed from cooled lava, and almond and olive groves, a main source of income for the local people. The last stage of the road passes through the ancient cemetery or necropolis area. Finally, one reaches the spot from where there is a uniquely beautiful view, and one looks out across theterraced slopes and harbours of Knidos. Although excavations have been carried out at the site for many years, Knidos, because of its remote and isolated location, has remained unspoilt and has not been overwhelmed by a large volume of tourist traffic. This book is intended to provide visitors with a brief history of this important ancient city and an easy guide to the site as it is today. The surviving ruined buildings and monuments are described in a set order, as listed in the contents, so that visitors are given the best route to follow. Those buildings that are most visible and whose excavation has been completed are listed first and in greater detail, while others, such as the Large Theatre, which are difficult to reach, or areas that are still being excavated or studied, like the Sanctuary of the Muses and the Necropolis, are described more briefly.
