Angels, prophets and saints in Islamic and Christian art.= Islam ve Hiristiyan sanatinda melekler, peygamberler ve azizler. Art History has been through a methodological transformation process by which it is becoming even more interdisciplinary, there is a significant need to be critical and the art historians have to find new perspectives on or new ways to conduct their researches, by looking beyond their areas of expertise to different approaches and other disciplines. This concern could and even should be reflected on a more general responsibility of art historians and historians in general. At this point, let me refer to the White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue of the Council of Europe, launched at the 118th ministerial session (Strasbourg, 7 May 2008): ?History teaching is instrumental in overcoming the wounds of the past and in promoting the fundamental values to which the Council of Europe is particularly committed; it is a decisive factor in reconciliation, recognition, understanding and mutual trust between peoples?. Historians in general, but also history of art scholars, must shoulder their responsibility on the elimination of prejudices and stereotypes among different countries, cultures and religions. One way to do is to highlight the positive mutual influences during the long history of Europe, while becoming critical at the very least to their own studies against possible ignorance and any misuse of history for ideological aims. In view of these, the colloquium and this book aim to represent a pioneer study in the field of art history in Turkey.

"Every year a number of books of Roman coinage appear on the market. To write another one, when so many works on the subject occupy the shelves of the libraries, is to say the least a bold enterprise. It can be justified only if the book differs in essence from all the previous works. (.) The present work is, so far as I can ascertain, the only one of its kind to appear in print. It is merely a survey when compared to the many volumes of treaties published on the subject. I do hope that this modest handbook will allow collectors to talk about the pieces in their collection with some authority as well as provide them with an insight into the various aspects of Roman coinage, the whole compressed within 170 pages".

The epigraphic guide to Hierapolis of Phrygia (Pamukkale) aims to present visitors to the site and the museum with some of the most interesting Greek inscriptions that they will encounter, helping to both read and understand them. The excavations conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission have trebled the number of documents that were known at the end of the nineteenth century, now totalling over 1000. Starting in Hellenistic times, the inscriptions from Hierapolis shed light on all aspects of urban life, and provide information on the composition of the population, on institutions and government, on municipal and provincial roles, as well as on religion, productive sectors and the organisation of gilds, Greek-type contests and amphitheatre games, the activity of public benefactors, funerary rites, the Jewish community and the expressions of Christianity. The majority of the most significant documents have been published, and work is now directed towards producing a scientific corpus of all epigraphic material. The presence of this small Byzantine church in the Alakent neighborhood of Demre has been known to archaeologists and art historians for quite some time. Revealing the structure from under the five meter deep alluvial fill in which it was buried was only possible as a result of the excavation work carried out in 2010 as part of the Myra-Andriake Excavations. The alluvial fill kept most of the aspects of the building such as mural paintings, roof tiles, facade decorations and spolia intact. The book was edited by the GABAM's director and member of Koç University Archaeology and Art History Department, Engin Akyürek. "The chapters of book are 'The Story of the Excavation' by Nevzat Çevik, the director of the Myra-Andriake Excavations, 'Myra: The Metropolis of Lycia', 'Alakent Church: Location And Architecture' and 'Conclusion' by Engin Akyürek, 'Architectural Sculpture' by Ayça Tiryaki, 'Wall Paintings' by Nilay Çoragan, 'Ceramic Finds' and 'Burials' by Özgü Çömezoglu Uzbek, 'Inscriptions' by Hüseyin Sami Öztürk and Christof Schuler, 'Conservation Treatments' by Sebahattin Küçük.".
