1983SURF19MPalm Beach Press Palm Beach 1983. 1st edition hardback with dust jacket. Folio 200pp., col. & b/w.
8vo., First Edition, with 18 plates on 8; cloth, gilt back, a fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Good, thoughtful (and often entertaining) extended summaries of the 115 officers appointed to the Royal Navy's highest rank in the three hundred-odd years of its existence. Undeniably useful and certainly handy, it would benefit from more and better pictures (particularly of the lesser-known individuals). A similar treatment of British admirals is a greater need.
8vo., First Edition, with plates; cloth, a near fine copy in the dustwrapper.
4to., First Edition, with decorative title, very numerous coloured and monochrome illustrations in the text and endpaper maps; cloth, gilt back, a very good, clean copy in the dustwrapper. The authors combine much new research and newly discovered material to provide a clear explanation of the failure of Philip's fleet, together with some radical and unexpected conclusions. Supersedes all previous books on the Armada.
