Stanley Hall's bookplate signature on title page and occasional pencil marks to margins probably his. 372 pp. Treats perception hallucinations hypnotism dreams etc. A neat association copy linking two contemporaries of roughly the same age and inclinations: both Hall in America and Sully in England became interested in psychological education and leaders in the Child Study movement. They even shared an unpaid intern in Max Friedrich Meyer who first worked with Sully before coming to America to work with Hall. Sully cites Hall's 1881 paper on hypnotism in this book. In fact it can be argued that Hall's main counterpart in England would be James Sully. D. Appleton hardcover

Henry Sully was surgeon to Wiveliscombe Infirmiary and to the Duke of Cumberland. This work records a number of local rabies cases and repeats directions given earlier by Somerset doctors that the effects of rabies can be prevented if the saliva is wiped away and the bite thoroughly washed. Washing the wound with antiseptic is still the first treatment for rabies. The understanding of rabies did not progress until Louis Pasteur published 'Sur la Rage' in 1881. The article on Horse Provender is about Sully's system for feeding horse chaff via a chute from a loft above the stable. Taunton: Printed for the Author, by J. W. Marriott, 1828 hardcover
