All four corners of pastedowns have surface torn off probably whilst some cover was removed this has led to discolouration of the corners of the free endpapers opposite.

In 12° (15,6x9,3 cm); (4), 383, (1) pp. Bella ed elegante legatura artigianale coeva in mezza pelle blu con titolo, autore e ricchi fregi in oro e rosso al dorso. Piatti con doppio filetto in oro e foderati con bella carta marmorizzata azzurra, qualche lieve strofinatura. L’interno dei piatti foderati con bella carta marmorizzata coeva. Taglio superiore riccamente dorato. Prima edizione di questa raccolta delle poesie composte dal celebre poeta francese René Francois Armand Prudhomme detto Sully Prudhomme (Parigi, 16 marzo 1839 – Châtenay-Malabry, 6 settembre 1907), tra ul 1879 ed il 1888. Lemerre pubblicò altre due opere all’interno delle opere di Prudhomme che contenevano le poesie dal 1872 al 1878 e dal 1878 al 1879. Questo volume contiene i componimenti dal 1879 al 1888 fra i quali L’ispiration, La Reverie, L’Eventail, Le Fleurs d’Herbier, L’Amour Assassine, Le Soir, Sonnet a Pasteur, Metaphysique, La Maree e tante altre. Sully Prudhomme fu il primo ad essere insignito con il Premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 1901. Figlio di un ingegnere, la sua carriera era già stata programmata quando una malattia ad un occhio gli impedì di seguire gli studi presso il Politecnico. Seguì un periodo di incertezza durante il quale Prudhomme lavorò prima in un’industria manifatturiera e agli studi di giurisprudenza, ambedue le attività senza furono seguite senza troppa convinzione. Membro della «Conference La Bruyère», su suggerimento di vari partecipanti, decise di provare a dedicarsi alla poesia. Ebbe immediatamente un grande successo tanto da vedere le proprie composizioni poetiche, stampate più volte e vendute in numerosissime copie. Nonostante il suo successo, l’arrivo del premio Nobel, al quale concorreva con personalità di enorme importanza come Zola e Tolstoj, fu un enorme sorpresa. Fu membro dell’Accademia di Francia dal 1881 fino alla sua morte avvenuta nel 1907. Esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione in bella legatura artigianale coeva.

Solide legature contemporanee in mezza pelle marrone con grandi angoli, dorsi a cinque nervi con titolo e autore in oro, piatti screziati, taglio superiore dorato, sguardie decorate. Foxy, qualche abrasione ai dorsi e ai piatti, dorsi leggermente scoloriti. Ottimi esemplari. Testo in francese. In-12, about 16 x 10 cm, three volumes, pp. 319, pp. 243, pp. 266. Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, undated (late 19th century). Fine contemporary brown half leather bindings with large corners, five-bands spines with golden title and author, mottled panels, golden top edge, decorated endpapers.
