190588486Boston: The Bibliophile Society 1905. First Limited Edition. One of 445 copies. Two large octavo volumes 24cm. Publisher's parchment over boards titled in gilt on spines; fore- and bottom edges untrimmed; 224213pp; illus; printed on Italian mold-made paper. Bindings slightly toned with age somewhat darker on spines; faint foxing to prelims and tissue-guards but the text remains fresh and clean mostly unopened. Far better than is typically seen as the Bibliophile Society publications were notoriously prone to foxing.

The first translation into English of Marat's Lettres Polonaises a satirical epistolary novel that was never published in the author's lifetime. Though uncredited in the publication the translation and substantial biographical introduction are by the Boston author and translator Nathan Haskell Dole 1852-1935. The Bibliophile Society unknown
