An early and very rare partly manuscript document of the Dersaadet Constantinople branch of the Russian Bank for Foreign Trade on "Joyston Superfine" watermarked paper signed by the branch manager with two Ottoman stamps 38x235 cm. In Ottoman script Old Turkish with Arabic letters. Blank verso two slight stains on the paper otherwise a clean and well-preserved document. Extremely rare in the market and institutional holdings. The official document written by the Dersaadet Istanbul branch of the bank to the Turkish Supreme Court regarding the estate of a Greek citizen who was notified to the bank in 1926 and the lawsuit filed between close relatives regarding this inheritance. Turkish transcription of the document: "Istanbul Mahkeme-i Asliye Altinci Hukuk Dairesi Riyâset-i Âlîsi'ne Reis beyefendi hazretleri Aleksandra Kesisoglu terekesine dair Mahkeme-i Âlîlerinizin 20 Kanunsani 1926 tarihçeli ve 57-182 adedli tezkîresi 23 Kanunsani 1926 tarihinde Rus Ticâret-i Hariciyye Bankasi'na teblig kilindi. The Russian Bank for Foreign Trade was one of a group of banks in Saint Petersburg that played an important part in Russian international trade in the second half of the nineteenth century and up to the Russian Revolution between 1871-1917. The bank was one of the largest in Russia prior to the revolution and it was nationalised by a decree of 14 December 1917 leading to a legal battle in France over its deposits in that country. Spiral-bound at the top with printed green paper wrappers. Some faint evidence of moisture to the price list and the extremities of the wrappers which are a trifle soiled; else about very good.<br /> <br /> A relic from that bygone era when a living room was referred to as the parlor. Based in Chicago Arrow offered furniture that was made to stand the test of time. Sadly the same cannot be said of their fabric choices which are best described as mid-century Maude. This is one of the early books on May 1 in Turkey printed by the Turkish Revolutionary Workers' Confederation of Trade Unions. Cover art illustrated by Turkish painter Orhan Taylan 1941-. In the Ottoman Empire the first celebration of Labour Day was organized in Skopje in 1909. In Istanbul Labour Day was first celebrated in 1912. No celebrations could be organized between 1928 and 1975. On 1 May 1976 the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey DISK organized a rally on Taksim Square with mass participation one year ago "Bloody First May" which was an attack on leftist demonstrators on 1 May 1977 International Workers' Day in Taksim Square Istanbul Turkey. This booklet was printed for the commemoration of this celebration. Orhan Taylan was born in Samsun to an artist mother in 1941. Graduated from Robert College 1960 and the Fine Arts Academy of Rome 1965. First solo painting exhibition in 1968. Took leading positions in artists' organizations 1975-1978. Organized mural painting symposiums and executed several murals 1976-80. His paintings were exhibited in London Amsterdam and Moscow within Turkish Highlights exhibitions between 1988 and 1990. Aside from regular exhibitions in Istanbul and Ankara his works were also shown in solo gallery exhibitions in Paris New York Geneva and Athens. Orhan Taylan exhibits mainly figurative oil paintings and occasionally metal sculptures and drawings. Lives and works in Istanbul. During the 1971 Military coup taken in custody on summer midnight together with his wife and cartoonist Tan Oral. All his archives and hundreds of books destroyed. 1977 Group exhibitions in Paris and Berlin. The May 1 poster wins 1st prize in the International Poster Competition of the World Federation of Trade Unions Prag. Source: Turkish Painting - Visual Art Encyclopedia. Similar to books published by O.N.T. or D.M.C. thread companies the manual provides a range of practical projects but with a distinct style of modeling that shows women in action. Two-colour decorated wrappers a little unevenly sunned and lightly marked with the front cover slightly curled along the top and bottom edges; an excellent copy. Our favourite is how 'To Clean Fur of Domestic Animals' pages 46-47: 'Place small nozzle on end of hose and run lightly up the animal's coat. Dogs become very fond of having their coats cleaned by Electrolux . This also removes all vermin'. As this item is surely only for the purist and completist we include a copy of 'An Introduction to Your New Electrolux Model: Model 89 Cleaner Instruction Book' oblong octavo 24 pages plus card covers with a front cover cut-out; undated but looks 1960s. 2 items. Three-colour pictorial wrappers; trifling silverfish damage mainly marginal to the top corner of the last six leaves; acidic paper uniformly tanned and slightly brittle; tears to the edges of some leaves expertly sealed; occasional short closed marginal tears; chips to a few leading margins; six leaves of colour plates of rugs and soft furnishings between pages 384-385 detached and now housed separately in a custom-made Mylar pocket a few leading edges are a little chipped; overall an excellent copy of an item definitely not made to survive as well as this example has done.
