Meaney with his signature to the front pastedown and further inscribed 'From C. T. Conover Seattle Wash.' This copy has been specially bound with a leather spine and two bevelled and varnished wooden boards. 38pp. with 10 b/w plates one panorama shot of the waterfront and one map. Issued as a souvenir for Seattle's guests on the occasion of the celebration commemorating the completion of the Great Northern Railway to its Pacific terminus at Seattle and the inauguration of through traffic June 1893. First publication in this form; originally a series of articles published in the Newport newspaper Herald of the Times written in opposition to Van Buren's economic policies and in support of the Whig Party platform. Hazard 1797-1886 was a Rhode Island textile manufacturer and dedicated social reformer who favord protections for American domestic manufacturing as a solution to unemployment. He later published works on capital punishment and poverty issues. 189076420San Bernardino: Greene & Wastell ca. 1890. Each card is lithographed in colors on stiff stock and measures 6 x 11 inches. All bear the image of a famous American with the exception of the Shakespeare card a portrait of each a view of their residence a quote attributed to them and a facsimile of their signature. The subjects are Thomas Jefferson John Greenleaf Whittier Abraham Lincoln and William Shakespeare. The Whittier card has a tiny bit of the upper left corner absent hard to discern but on the whole they are bright fresh and clean.The firm as quite a successful one in the early history of San Bernardino; ""This firm by their indomitable pluck and enterprise have built up a trade during the past two years thatis second to none in the city. They opened up in business in San Bernardino in October 1889 in one-half of the store they now occupy in the post office block. Business grew at such a rapid rate that they soon had to obtain possession of the other half of the store which they succeeded in doing. When they enlarged their store a large stock of new goods was added to the already magnificent stock. They now have about $35000 stock on hand of the finest goods in the clothing and dry goods line in the state" San Bernardino Courier January 1 1892. Sadly we cannot determine who the printer was. Old folds now mellowed but with a nasty closed tear running down the middle of the sheet for 6.5 inches.Now housed in a removable clear archival sleeve with acid-free backing. Included is a handsomely printed handbill 4 x 6 inches for a 1988 lecture on "Victoria Opium and Empire." by Frank. J. Novak M.D. presented at Stanford University's Fairchild Auditorium. Commodities report from the Schieffelin drug firm including the going rate for opium oil. Jacob Schieffelin and his brother founded their drug company in 1794; in 1813 the firm passed to his sons who renamed the firm H. H Schieffelin located at the intersection of John St. and Cliff St. in Lower Manhattan about two blocks from today's South Street Seaport Museum. That firm dissolved in 1848.<p>Other trade goods listed include agricultural produce soaps lucifer matches various gums sulphur asbestos ginger etc. A fine glimpse into daily American life and global trade.</p> . Contents include an overview of Hendersonville distances to points of interest in and around Hendersonville from the courthouse prominent points in view from Hendersonville "Friendly and Church Societies" and a directory of hotels and boarding houses. Heavily illustrated with many pictures of Hendersonville and various landmarks during the early 20th century in black and white. Unpaginated. 30 pages. <br><br>CONDITION: Overall VG. These carriages are excessively luxurious and with prices to reflect that. The company was founded in 1874; it had a factory in Limoges France and imported porcelain from Bohemian and Czechoslovakian factories. <br /> <br /> The plates are decorated primarily in brown and green- animals include tiger leopard stag elephant bear camel & lion. 9 1/4 x 15 3/4". Closed tear lower border lower left margin in the corner missing not affecting illustrated area. Very unusual. unknown

Set of six beautifully colored lithographic trade cards of Australia including a kangaroo image issued by the Liebig company with the text in Italian. The set is titled "In Australia". The Italian set is identical to the French edition but more uncommon. One of the most graphic sets produced by this European company which enjoyed an international market in the late 19th and early 20th century. Pictured are indigenous peoples a kangaroo and an emu natural scenery and an exotic plant; farming and ranching and seaport scenes. Liebig Company unknown
