Second edition published the same year as the first and identical except for the "Deuxieme Edition" statement at the head of the folding map. It is illustrative of the worldwide interest in the Gold Rush that brought so many gold-seekers to California including from France. Cowan calls it "the most complete and extensive work descriptive of California published in France at this time." "Ferry based his text on many sources and quoted extensively from Jacques Antoine Moerenhout. He included chapters on New Helvetia the gold region and methods of mining" - Kurutz. A lively early work by the progressive contemporary British artist David Ferry.<br/> <br/>A printmaker and photomontage specialist who has lectured and exhibited his works worldwide David Ferry was born in Blackpool in 1957. After studying at the Blackpool College of Technology he trained at the prestigious Camberwell School of Art and Crafts and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. His first solo exhibition was held at the 1984 International Contemporary Art Fair at London's Barbican Centre and he made his first significant U.S. debut in 2000 as a visiting professor at Southampton College New York with an exhibition entitled David Ferry from the window seat at the Avram Gallery. In addition to his many lithographs and photomontages Ferry's oeuvre includes numerous artist books some of which featured in the 1999 touring exhibition and catalogue Aspects of Our National Heritage. His abstract works frequently have a satirical edge and the influence of his self-professed fascination with the surreal and the comical is particularly evident in those images representing his subjective interpretation of particular places and historical events. Ferry currently teaches printmaking at the Winchester School of Art and is also a curriculum advisor for a national print study center in Cambridge. In 2002 he was awarded an important grant from the Pollock-Krasner to fund the creation of new works for a future exhibition in New York. unknown books

Very Good. <br/><br/> Benjamin Hobbs a resident of Harper's Ferry worked as an armorer. He was among the first to warn that John Brown had captured the Harper's Ferry Armory. At Brown's trial Armstead Ball testified that Hobbs aroused him early in the morning to announce the takeover and that persons were carrying off government property. <br/> This summons is signed by Fontaine Beckham Mayor of Harper's Ferry and agent of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at the time of the insurrection.
