12430London 1981. Lithograph. Number 2 from an edition of 4. Signed by the artist in pencil lower right. Very good condition apart from a few small bits of excess ink in the margins. A lively early print by the progressive contemporary British artist David Ferry.

A printmaker and photomontage specialist who has lectured and exhibited his works worldwide David Ferry was born in Blackpool in 1957. After studying at the Blackpool College of Technology he trained at the prestigious Camberwell School of Art and Crafts and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. His first solo exhibition was held at the 1984 International Contemporary Art Fair at London's Barbican Centre and he made his first significant U.S. debut in 2000 as a visiting professor at Southampton College New York with an exhibition entitled David Ferry from the window seat at the Avram Gallery. In addition to his many lithographs and photomontages Ferry's oeuvre includes numerous artist books some of which featured in the 1999 touring exhibition and catalogue Aspects of Our National Heritage. His abstract works frequently have a satirical edge and the influence of his self-professed fascination with the surreal and the comical is particularly evident in those images representing his subjective interpretation of particular places and historical events. In 2002 he was awarded an important grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. His work can be found at the Ashmolean Museum Oxford; the Museum of Modern Art New York; the Scottish Museum of Modern Art; the Art Institute Chicago; the Art Museum of Estonia; and in many corporate and university collections. He has had recent solo exhibitions in Berlin Brighton London New York Seoul and Poznan. unknown

2012E34226Margate NJ: ComteQ 2012. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. A fine fresh unread as-new copy in equally fine dust jacket. First edition first printing. Hardcover. 306 pp. with bibliography. Scarce. A biography of Enoch L. "Nucky" Johnson 1883-1968 the Republican powerhouse from Atlantic City the "boss of the Boardwalk' who dominated New Jersey politics in the early decades of the 20th century. He was brilliantly depicted as "Nucky Thompson" in the HBO miniseries "Boardwalk Empire" by actor Steve Buscemi. In real life Johnson was the Atlantic City political boss sheriff of Atlantic County businessman and crime boss who dominated county and indeed all of south Jersey and beyond from the 1910s until the 1940s. In this lively biography author Frank J. Ferry who in 1958 was appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New Jersey and in the 1960s represented him in a federal case takes the liberty of recreating some of the dialogue between Nucky and others. He based these conversations on details he discussed personally with Johnson as well as on transcripts of testimony before the Senate in 1928 and from his 1941 trial. ComteQ hardcover
