Les contes de Jean Ferry constellés de souvenirs d'enfance imaginaires sont envahis d'images oniriques : un train qui ne s'arrête jamais un astrologue chinois dont le passe-temps consiste à calculer la date de sa mort. Autant de sujets qui enthousiasmèrent André Breton au point de leur consacrer une préface de plus de 16 pages imprimée en rouge en tête du texte : « Jean Ferry écrit sur le repos du nuage qu'a fait dans notre conscience Hiroshima. » Ce volume est publié par les Cinéastes bibliophiles une collection de Jean-Jacques Pauvert aux tirages très restreints qui fut inaugurée en 1947 avec le Haute surveillance de Jean Genet.
