Gellert was an educator and wrote several books of moral fables and poems for a young audience with clear language and simple form based on La Fontaine. He became quite popular in London travelling frequently to England.<br /> <br /> <br /> This sammelbande contains the second edition of both parts of his Fables and Tales first printed in 1746 and 48 along with the first edition of Didactic Poems and Tales from 1754. The publishers really tried to pack a lot into this one little book! We start out with an alphabet with two examples and brief verse for each letter then we go on to counting then days of the week then months and finish off with some natural history. Peppered throughout the book are Mother Goose rhymes. The book is illustrated in two-color plus line art printed with blue ink and there is a color frontis depicting Little Red Riding Hood.
