Die Anthropophyteia wurde von Krauss als Fortsetzung der 'Kryptadia' gegründet; sie ist neben der Kryptadia die wohl umfassendste Sammlung zur Sexualfolklore und ethnologischen Sexualforschung. Sie ist eines der wichtigsten Grundlagenwerke zur Sexualforschung und Sittengeschichte und in ihrer hervorragenden Leistung ist sie wohl die bedeutenste Arbeit im Lebenswerk von F.S. Krauss. Zahlreiche Vertreter der Völkerkunde, Medizin und Rechtswissenschaften arbeiteten daran mit. Seit 1910 gehörte auch Sigmund Freud zu den Mitarbeitern. Damit wurde die Anthropophyteia wiederum zur Grundlage für viele kulturgeschichtliche und auch psychoanalytische Werke. Da jedoch Krauss ab 1910 in zahlreiche Prozesse verwickelt wurde, kam es zur Beschlagnahme der Jahrbücher.
