Publisher's original pale beige cloth boards with bright crisp blocked gilt title letters within a dark green ink printed vertical box/panel and bright crisp blocked gilt letters publisher to foot of spine/backstrip; with negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present - and immaculate monochrome 'Fairy-Tale Land' map illustrated endpapers. Three corners with minor creases from minor bumping - front lower corner with a light faint thumbprint-sized indeterminate stain/mark; a similar coloured but miniscule thin strip stain along board's front top edge too; otherwise rest of boards bright and clean. Topfore-edges bright and clean with little or no marks; contents bright tight clean solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners but previous owner has placed a blue ink tick alongside all but 8 of the tales on the Contents list/table pages - the only annotation noted. Else appears unread apart from my collation. Highly collected and prolific children's book illustratorsan uncommon scarce and unusual item in Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone's genre in bold style and will be an important and welcome addition to the Grahame Johnstones' canon. Janet died in a tragic accident on 20th January1979 her sister surviving her until 25th May1998. Children's book illustrators specialising in large brightly coloured gift books mainly published by Dean & SonLtd. in which the full-page illustrations surround the passages of text. Janet specialized in animals and birds Anne focused on the period costumes that so dominated their work. Their work represents a recent manifestation of the nursery tradition mass-marketed by Mabel Lucie Attwell and updated by Hilda Boswell characterised by unfailing sentimentality and a palpable determination to please. Between them they published over 200 titles; with over 5000 illustrations in total: 1000 in b/w and 4000 in colourand 10 technical equestrian books.
