Top fore corner of first leaf has a neat tape repair from back side. Original stitched binding holding well. A few leaves unopened. The Grand Lodge met in Raleigh the first week of December 1864. In his address herein Grand Master Eli Faucette Watson alluding to the Civil War and the Confederacy notes that the ancient fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons has nobly sent forth many valiant sons "who have sacrificed their lives in defence of Liberty and against the usurpation of a despot and tyrant and will ever be ready to stand side by side with the bravest of North Carolina's sons in vindicating our rights and institutions."<br /> <br /> Much additional content relating to Masonic business in North Carolina including treasurer's reports membership reports and more. <br /> <br /> Ref. Publisher's coated pale blue paper wraps titled to front wrap in dark blue. 233pp. Some light edgewear and marginal creasing some wear to the spine ends and some slight but not terribly significant wear to the spine panel with a small triangle of loss at the head. A very good copy whose only real issue is that 1870's sky blue paper looks a little grubby rather easily. Internally clean a nice densely printed object. An account of the dealings affairs meetings and minutes of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania; expenses new members a mason's account of visiting the various lodges of Philadelphia notable correspondence with other lodges and a wealth of associated information. He claimed that the Freemasons were conspiring and monopolizing positions in government and the testimony wrung from the Masonic defendant’s witnesses was very embarrassing to the local Masonic Societies. First edition of this spectacular and scarce work visually chronicling this massive meeting of over 40000 Freemason Knights Templar in Boston during the Gilded Age. This Conclave was the height of pomp and circumstance for the Philanthropic Chivalric Order of Freemasons and they seem to have taken over the entire city. The New York Times notes that “Boston has seldom if ever been so elaborately decorated. Practially every building along the line of the march besides many of the side streets is clothed in color with appropriate mottoes and Masonic emblems intertwined with streamers and bunting.†This spectacular work depicts the 1000s of the participants participating lodges the special Masonic badges and ribbons for the event regalia the active lodges in Boston at the time and more. The California Commandery was one of the earliest to arrive in their specially equipped train who upon mounting their horses was escorted through the city by the Boston Commandery.
