Le bulletin deviendra le 20 janvier 1941 le Journal officiel de la France libre 14 livraisons en 1941 et 8 en 1942 puis à partir du 28 août 1942 avec le ralliement d'une partie de la Résistance intérieure Journal officiel de la France combattante 6 livraisons en 1942 et 10 en 1943. Ce numéro unique d'août 1940 reproduit en première page l'affiche « À tous les Français » et présente pour la première fois le texte intégral de « l'Appel du 18 juin » ainsi que l'accord du 7 août 1940 signé entre le général de Gaulle et le Premier ministre britannique Winston Churchill donnant ainsi des fondements juridiques au gouvernement de la « France libre » après la reconnaissance par Londres le 28 juin précédent du général de Gaulle « comme chef des Français libres ». « L'accord du 7 août écrira le général de Gaulle dans ses Mémoires de guerre eut pour la France libre une importance considérable non seulement parce que dans l'immédiat il nous tirait matériellement d'embarras mais encore pour cette raison que les autorités britanniques pour leurs rapports avec nous n'hésitèrent plus à nous faciliter les choses. Surtout le monde entier connut qu'un commencement de solidarité franco-anglaise était malgré tout rétabli . Pourtant tout en faisant mes premiers pas dans cette carrière sans précédent j'avais le devoir de vérifier qu'aucune autorité plus qualifiée que la mienne ne voudrait s'offrir à remettre la France et l'Empire dans la lutte. Tant que l'armistice ne serait pas en vigueur on pouvait imaginer quoique contre toute vraisemblance que le gouvernement de Bordeaux choisirait finalement la guerre. The program includes listings of the presidents officers directors and honorary members of the Alliance Francaise de New York American Society of the French Legion of Honor and The France-America Society. In very good condition. Rare and desirable signed by General de Gaulle. French general and statesman Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle led the French Resistance against Nazi Germany in World War II and reestablished democracy in France as chair of the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946. 19631753541963. Presented to a British officer who served with the Free French Inscribed by De Gaulle on the mount "Pour le Colonel R. R. Hoare Bien Cordiàlement! C. De Gaulle 7. 6. 63". The portrait shows De Gaulle in military uniform in the library of the Élysée Palace. The recipient was Colonel Robert Rawdon Hoare 1897-1977 who in the Second World War was the commanding officer of the 5th Regiment Royal Horse Artillery part of the Eighth Army. He was head of an artillery training team for Free French forces. Also included is a New Year's card and a typed letter signed from De Gaulle 7 December 1962 thanking him for a letter - "Ce témoignage me touche d'autant plus que je connais et depuis de nombreuses années vos sentimnents profondément sincères à l'égard de la France" "this testimony touches me all the more because I have known for many years your deeply sincere feelings towards France". Photograph 218 x 176 mm on mount 294 x 241 mm; studio stamp of Jean Marie Marcel on verso. Slight tape residue at head of verso where formerly mounted a little toned. In very good condition. unknown

General De Gaulle left France for England when he learned that the government had requested an armistice with Germany unwilling to surrender to the enemy. He issued a call on BBC Radio to all officers and soldiers who could make it to British territory to join him and form the Free French Forces. De Gaulle remained involved in politics after the Allied victory and was put in charge of the country during a period of crisis in 1958 becoming the last president of the Fourth Republic and first of the Fifth Republic.
