Only recently has the author Condesa de Merlin been appreciated as pivotal both to the Cuban nationalist tradition and to 19th Century Spanish-American literature. A second and third memoir of Malibran appears in vol. 2 along with selections from her correspondence anecdotes and finishes with a set of Italian sonnets and odes addressed to Madame Malibran.
