Originally published in 1891 as "Schliemann's Excavations : An Archaeological and Historical Study" this his book, which was written under Schliemann's supervision and was published shortly after his death, the dazzling accumulation of Schliemann's many findings has been systemized by Dr. Schuchhardt. He also updates them, as Schliemann uncovered so much and was a tireless worker that he sometimes did not know precisely what he had found. After a short description of Schliemann's life, Dr. Schuchhardt gives detailed accounts of Schliemann's discoveries at Troy, Tiryns, and Mycenae. The great treasures found at Troy and Mycenae are thoroughly described, as well as Schliemann's experimental method of unearthing them. All of these findings are illustrated by hundreds of illustrations, diagrams and maps, This is a facsimile of the US edition published by B. A lush, seductive novel of the legendary beauty whose face ''launched a thousand ships'' Daughter of a god, wife of a king, prize of antiquitys bloodiest war, Helen of Troy has inspired artists for millennia. Now Margaret George, the highly acclaimed bestselling historical novelist, has turned her intelligent, perceptive eye to the myth that is Helen of Troy. Margaret George breathes new life into the great Homeric tale by having Helen narrate her own story. Through her eyes and in her voice, we experience the discovery of her divine origin and her terrifying beauty. While hardly more than a girl, Helen married the remote Spartan king Menelaus and bore him a daughter. By the age of twenty, the worlds most beautiful woman was resigned to a passionless marriage until she encountered the handsome Trojan prince Paris. And once the lovers flee to Troy, war, murder, and tragedy become inevitable." Large heavy volume[1.00 kg] Book

GUIDA EDITORI 2001 360 PP. Attandrus, which lies south of the Troas Region, has also taken its place among the unearthed cities after the latest excavations. Numerous ancient settlements and Ottoman structures (castles, religious buildings, etc.), which are less known in the Troas region and are waiting to beexplored, have been included in the pages of the book. Sightseeing these settlements and their structures in the pristine nature of the region also means embarking on a pleasant journey. The functionality and architecture of the structures of these settlements, established on high and sheltered locations, are amazing. The explorers of the region are mainly surprised by encountering structures of different periods at unexpected locations. The Early Bronze Age fortress, a Hellenistic temple, the Roman road and bridge, or the Ottoman castles and religious buildings are intertwined in the region. The locations and road descriptions of the settlements and structures to be visited along certain routes are provided in detail in the sections of the book.

"The author, a noted geoarchaeologist who has done extensive investigative fieldwork in landscapes of Bronze Age Greece and has recently excavated at Tiryns, goes to the source of the Atlantis legend, two of Plato's dialogs. Zangger examines these accounts in great detail, accepts them as historically based, and presents evidence for identifying Bronze Age Troy as the most likely site of "Atlantis" 256p. illus. maps. bibliography .index Book
"The Trojan War is the most famous conflict in history, the subject of Homer"s Iliad, one of the cornerstones of Western literature. Although many readers know that this literary masterwork is based on actual events, there is disagreement about how much of Homer"s tale is true. Drawing on recent archeological research, historian and classicist Barry Strauss explains what really happened in Troy more than 3,000 years ago.For many years it was thought that Troy was an insignificant place that never had a chance against the Greek warriors who laid siege and overwhelmed the city. In the old view, the conflict was decided by duels between champions on the plain of Troy. Today we know that Troy was indeed a large and prosperous city, just as Homer said. The Trojans themselves were not Greeks but vassals of the powerful Hittite Empire to the east in modern-day Turkey, and they probably spoke a Hittite-related language called Luwian. The Trojan War was most likely the culmination of a long feud over power, wealth, and honor in western Turkey and the offshore islands. The war itself was mainly a low-intensity conflict, a series of raids on neighboring towns and lands. It seems unlikely that there was ever a siege of Troy; rather some sort of trick -- perhaps involving a wooden horse -- allowed the Greeks to take the city.Strauss shows us where Homer nods, and sometimes exaggerates and distorts, as well. He puts the Trojan War into the context of its time, explaining the strategies and tactics that both sides used, and compares the war to contemporary battles elsewhere in the eastern Mediterranean. With his vivid reconstructions of the conflict and his insights into the famous characters and events of Homer's great epic, Strauss masterfully tells the story of the fall of Troy as history without losing the poetry and grandeur that continue to draw readers to this ancient tale. 258p. index New except for remainder mark Book
