Fregio xilografico al frontespizio. Lieve difetto della carta alle pagine 139 e 163 esistente prima della stampa dell’opera. Piccolissimo ed ininfluente forellino di tarlo al margine basso bianco da pagina 241 alla fine del volume, ininfluente e nel complesso esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Seconda rara edizione, dopo la prima napoletana del 1617, di questo celebre trattato del grande medico, filosofo ed alchimista originario di San Marco dei Covati (Benevento), Giulio Cesare Baricelli (1574 – 1638). L’opera è un insieme di conoscenze, mediche, farmaceutiche, chimiche, alchemiche ed esoteriche con capitioli quali: Magiae seu incantationis vis;aegyptiorum opinio de elementis;Aegyptiorum arcana ad quartanam; Amoris originis controversiae; Capra maxime epilepsia tenatur; Calendula solis amica; Cicutam uterinum furorem domare; Daemonis astutia apud Indos; Germanorum mos circa coitum; Lupi aspectu homines obmutescunt; Maleficas artes in Septentr. Baircelli fu celebre “Medico, chimico e filosofo di fama italiana ed europea, Giulio Cesare Barricelli – – nacque a San Marco dei Cavoti nel 1574 (o 1575) e fu da molti, pure erroneamente, ritenuto originario di Benevento o di San Marco Argentano in Calabria. Erudito e studioso di poliedriche attitudini e capacità, studiò medicina e si interessò di filosofia, tanto che ancora giovanissimo fu autore di commenti alle opere di Platone, mentre nel 1614 pubblicò l’opera in quattro libri De hydronosa natura sive de sudore umani corporis, sulla natura e la terapia della sudorazione umana, nel 1617 scrisse l’Hortulus genialis, edito a Colonia e Ginevra ove raccolse antidoti e sudi sulle intossicazioni, e successivamente diede alle stampe il Thesaurus secretorum, opera in cui sono elencate le cure ed i rimedi per svariate malattie e problematiche quotidiane. Nel 1623 pubblicò poi un trattato sull’uso del siero del latte e del burro come medicamento, intitolato De lactis, seri, butyri facultatibus et usu, e nello stesso anno gli fu conferita la cittadinanza beneventana. Cultore di studi umanistici Barricelli scrisse anche alcuni epigrammi latini e morì in Benevento tra il 1638 ed il 1640?. Caillet, 727 edizione di Ginevra del medesimo anno. Dramatic Poster advertising a 1923 short comedy film starring Lige Conley and Louise Fazenda. Fazenda was a gawky highly popular slapstick funny girl silent film star of the time who starred in several silent shorts and full length films. She started as a Mack Sennett Bathing Beauty. Some of her movie roles include: the Old Maid A Dream Comes True and Ever Since Eve. Poster depicts a fantastic image of a maid holding a candle stick.
