Oversized and heavy. 17.125" x 13" x 3.5" 22 page introduction discusses the various collections from which these images come. The paintings are from a span of nearly a thousand years and are arranged chronologically. In each section the 200 plates are described with an attribution a short physical description and any notable comments on the work's history aesthetics or provenance. The descriptions are printed together in a short section of letterpress pages which is followed by the plates. The whole contained in a thick folding portfolio with three ties all in VG condition. In the area of Chinese art his major work was The Walls and Gates of Peking. Sirén was an early member of the theosophist movement. In 1956 he was awarded the Charles Lang Freer Medal.
