A PRESENTATION COPY FROM DAME FLORA ROBSON WITH HER SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Flora Robson (1902-1984), outstanding British character actress, was born in South Shields but her theatrical training took place at RADA where she was awarded a bronze medal in 1921. From a long and most distinguished career she is probably best remembered for her portrayal of Elizabeth I in William K Howard's feature film 'Fire Over England' (1937) in which she starred with Laurence Oliver and Vivien Leigh, and as the Mother Superior in Michael Powell's cult classic 'Black Narcissus' (1946). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Sam Wood's 'Saratoga Trunk' (1943) and awarded the DBE in 1960.
