No copies located in OCLC.
An ephemeral document of the "Paul is dead" rumor that swept Beatles fan-culture in the fall of 1969. Paul McCartney was alleged to have died in 1967 under mysterious circumstances and been replaced by a body double. Supposedly this jarring fact could only be alluded to by the surviving Beatles not expressed openly via tiny hints and clues in the Beatles' album artwork lyrics and interviews shades of "Q"'s "breadcrumbs" in the recent Q-Anon phenomenon perhaps. This booklet runs through many of these clues such as the famous lack of shoes on Paul on the album cover for Abbey Road. By late October 1969 pop culture references to Paul's demise had become a running joke that few took seriously even though the memory of the rumor managed to live on in the popular consciousness. Original pastedowns were saved but new pastedowns and endpapers were renewed. Manuscript entry of preowner "William Meade" on rear endpaper: "Ex Libris Guilliellmi Meade". From the library of Richard Meade Ballymartle. Lancelot Andrewes 1555 25 September 1626 was an English bishop and scholar who held high positions in the Church of England during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. During the latter's reign Andrewes served successively as Bishop of Chichester of Ely and of Winchester and oversaw the translation of the King James Version of the Bible or Authorized Version. In the Church of England he is commemorated on 25 September with a lesser festival. Andrewes was considered next to James Ussher to be the most learned churchman of his day and enjoyed a great reputation as an eloquent and impassioned preacher but the stiffness and artificiality of his style render his sermons unsuited to modern taste. Nevertheless there are passages of extraordinary beauty and profundity. His doctrine was High Church and in his life he was humble pious and charitable. He continues to influence religious thinkers to the present day and was cited as an influence by T. S. Eliot among others. Eliot also borrowed almost word for word and without his usual acknowledgement a passage from Andrewes' 1622 Christmas Day sermon for the opening of his poem "Journey of the Magi". In his 1997 novel Timequake Kurt Vonnegut suggested that Andrewes was "the greatest writer in the English language" citing as proof the first few verses of the 23rd Psalm. His translation work has also led him to appear as a character in three plays dealing with the King James Bible Howard Brenton's Anne Boleyn 2010 Jonathan Holmes' Into Thy Hands 2011 and David Edgar's Written on the Heart 2011. Second Printing. This copy exhibits the reading 'agi-' at the end of line 11 on B2r indicative of the form with some of the errata corrected and 3E2 blank rather than bearing errata.

Lancelot Andrewes was an English clergyman and scholar who held high positions in the Church of England during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. He was in turn Bishop of Chichester Ely and Winchester and oversaw the translation of the Authorized King James Version of the Bible. His Tortura Torti - a learned work which grew out of the Gunpowder Plot controversy - was written in answer to Roberto Bellarmino's Matthaeus Tortus which had criticized James I's oath of allegiance. Tortura Torti is one of the Bishop's most substantial controversial works in which he "refuted papal supremacy and the pope's power to dispense Catholics from moral and civil laws and defended the king's supremacy over the Church of England. One of the views intruded into the argument by James was a defence of his position that any pope who dispensed subjects from temporal loyalties was Antichrist an uncharacteristically shrill strain of anti-Catholicism for Andrewes which was tacitly qualified by his studied avoidance of questioning the pope's spiritual as opposed to temporal powers." DNB. Andrewes preached many times at Court and it is absolutely certain that Shakespeare heard him. Some sight foxing o/w Fine. Excudebat Robertus Barkerus hardcover
