An exceedingly clean and crisp copy. Dust jacket has some trivial rubbing to head and tail of spine entirely crisp and bright otherwise. Ralph Sylvester and Stathis Orphanos were publishers of the fine-press publishing company 'Sylvester & Orphanos.' Stathis was a noted photographer and born of Greek parents maintaining a residence on the island of Samos throughout his life. First published in Greece in 1978 the year before Elytis was awarded the Nobel Prize Maria Nefeli was a stark departure from the earlier work that had won him renown as the greatest Greek poet of his generation. Its novelty gave many early readers pause but 'despite the initial reservations voiced by some critics Maria Nefeli came to be regarded as the summa of Elytis's later writings.' Poetry Foundation. A superb example of Rolando Pieraccini's "Contemporary Poets in Signed Limited Editions" series issued in the 1980's & 90's by his Finnish publishing company Eurographica. The book was printed in Italy by Tipografia Nobili established in Pesaro 1823 on special Michelangelo Paper made at the Magnani Paper Mills in Pescia. In plain white stiff card wrappers and enclosed in a grey dustwrapper with deckled top-edge black titles and large folds. 50 pages untrimmed at the edges and at the rear of the book is a reproduction of the manuscript of one of the poems in the book.
