ABOUT THE BOOK Jane Eyre is a novel by English writerCharlotte Brontë, published under the pen name "Currer Bell".The novel revolutionised prose fiction by being the first to focus on its protagonist's moral and spiritual development through an intimate first-person narrative. The novel goes through five distinct stages: • Jane's childhood at Gateshead Hall, where she is emotionally and physically abused by her aunt and cousins; • her education at Lowood School, where she gains friends and role models but suffers oppression; • her time as governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with her mysterious employer, Edward Fairfax Rochester; • her time in the Moor House, during which her earnest clergyman cousin, St. John Rivers, proposes to her; and • ultimately her reunion with, and marriage to, her beloved Rochester. Throughout these sections, the novel provides perspectives on a number of important social issues and ideas, many of which are critical of the status quo. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Charlotte Brontë was an English novelist and poet, whose novels became classics of English literature. Charlotte Brontë was born on 21 April 1816 in Market Street Thornton, west of Bradford in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the third of the six children of Maria and Patrick Brontë, an Irish clergyman. In 1820,her family moved a few miles to the village of Haworth, where her father had been appointed perpetual curate of St Michael and All Angels Church. At home in Haworth Parsonage, Brontë acted as "the motherly friend and guardian of her younger sisters". Brontë wrote her first known poem at the age of 13 in 1829, and went on to write more than 200 poems in the course of her life. Many of her poems were "published" in their homemade magazine. She and her surviving siblings created their own fictional worlds, and began chronicling the lives and struggles of the inhabitants of their imaginary kingdoms. ABOUT THE BOOK:- Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë's only novel, was published in 1847 under the pseudonym "Ellis Bell". It was written between October 1845 and June 1846. Although Wuthering Heights is now a classic of English literature, contemporaneous reviews were deeply polarised; it was controversial because of its unusually stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals regarding religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality. Wuthering Heights includes the following aspects: It contains elements of gothic fiction. The moorland setting is quite significant. The book is very puzzling and very interesting. A "strangely original" book that depicts "humanity in the wild state." The book is "illuminated by some gleams of sunshine towards the end." Bold and unique, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is a heartbreaking tale of love, loss and vengeance. The novel has inspired adaptations, including film, radio and television dramatisations, a musical, a ballet, operas, and a song by Kate Bush. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Emily Jane Brontë was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature. She was the third-eldest of the four surviving Brontë siblings, between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. She published under the pen nameEllis Bell. Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 to Maria Branwell and an Irish father, Patrick Brontë. She was the sister of Charlotte and Anne Brontë, also famous authors. After the death of their mother in 1821, the children were left very much to themselves in the bleak moorland rectory. The children were educated, during their early life, at home, except for a single year that Charlotte and Emily spent at the Clergy Daughters’ School in Lancashire. Emily was perhaps the greatest of the three Brontë sisters, but the record of her life is extremely meagre, for she was silent and reserved and left no correspondence of interest.
