He was Chaplain of 47th Massachusetts Volunteers for three months, then became 1st Lt of 76th Regiment of US Colored Troops, staying in the Army until 1869 when he went as preacher to the Church of the Messiah. From 1872-1879 he was at the Church of the Disciples. He then went to Switzerland and Germany for his health. Around this time he developed a relationship with Charles Woodcock (Savage). In Germany Woodcock developed a intimate (homosexual) relationship with King Karl of Germany. Hepworth was drawn into the scandal that followed but never fully accused of homosexuality. Set on the path of author and journalist he published many articles and books, Hepworth was the New York Herald's Supervising Editor from March 1885 to the summer of 1892. In 1897 he went to Anatolia and stayed through the winter. Out of this trip came his most famous work: 'Through Armenia on Horseback' (1898). SCARCE. OCCULT 12

In-folio , pp. 166 (2), due tavole incise da M.Moro raffiguranti due frontespizi in stile gotico, XLVIII tavole f.t. incise di cui alcune rip, . Mezza pelle mancante della metà superiore del dorso, piatti con carta marmorizzata. Qualche fioritura dovuta al tipo di carta. Prima edizione della piuttosto rara traduzione italiana. Friedrich Hoffstadt (1802 Mannheim - 1846 Aschaffenburg) fu un giudice tedesco, un pittore e scrittore d'arte. Il suo testo "Gothische ABC-Buch", con regole di base per gli artisti e gli architetti, fu uno dei volumi base per la nascita del neogotico. Francesco Lazzari riprese gli stessi principi ampliando in questo volume con gli elementi gotici tipicamente veneziani.
